Mueller: Putin Ally Could Get Info About U.S. Efforts To Stop His Ongoing Crimes

Special counsel Robert Mueller in court filings Tuesday raised concerns that a Russian oligarch known as Putins chef could get access via the discovery process in the criminal case against his firm to sensitive materials, including information that could thwart the ongoing efforts of the United States to prevent his continuing criminal activity in Russia and elsewhere outside the United States.
The filing came in the case that Mueller has brought against Russian individuals and entities accused of facilitating Russias election meddling on social media, and in particular, in a back-and-forth between Mueller and the only co-defendant in the indictment who has shown up in court to face the charges.
A point of contention between lawyers for the co-defendant, a firm called Concord Management, and Muellers team is whether the firms general director Yevgeny Prigozhin should have access to discovery materials that prosecutors say are sensitive and have national security implications.
Prigozhin, a restauranteur with Kremlin ties, is also charged in Muellers indictment but has not submitted an appearance in court. His firm, Concord Management, entered a not guilty plea last month to a charge of conspiracy to defraud the United States.

(13,526 posts)He runs Internet Research Agency - which HACKED OUR ELECTION - and was indicted by Mr. Muller & Co. in February.
He also runs mercenaries in Syria via the Wagner group, which attacked US FORCES in February:
....Wagner is believed to be funded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a rich businessman close to President Vladimir Putin. Mr Prigozhin is on the US sanctions list because of his links to the eastern Ukraine separatists.
In December 2016 the US Treasury said Mr Prigozhin had "extensive business dealings" with the Russian defence ministry and was linked to the construction of a new military base near Ukraine.
Unnamed US intelligence sources quoted by the Washington Post say Mr Prigozhin was in close contact with the Kremlin in the run-up to the assault on the Syrian Democratic Forces base in Deir al-Zour region. The force is said to have crossed the River Euphrates and shelled the base close to Khursham, a short distance from highly-prized oil fields.
According to the report, intercepted communications showed that Mr Prigozhin was also involved in the operational planning with Syrian officials, ahead of the attack....

Journalist Maxim Borodin died under suspicious circumstances in mid-April:
Maxim Borodin
...In recent weeks, the journalist had written about Russian mercenaries known as the "Wagner Group" who were reportedly killed in Syria on 7 February in a confrontation with US forces.
Last week, the outgoing head of the CIA, Mike Pompeo, said that "a couple hundred" Russian mercenaries died in the clash in Deir al-Zour province. The mercenaries were apparently taking part in an attack by pro-Syrian government fighters on the headquarters of a US ally, the Syrian Democratic Forces...

(3 posts)Wasnt very bright of Mueller and Weissmann to charge the corporation. If they would have thought things through, they would have realized that there was no reason for the Russians to not hire counsel and demand discovery. Kind of worrisome that nobody foresaw this.

(22,651 posts)WHO IS Yevgeny Prigozhen? comments by Poppin 6/27/2018
In Special Counsel Mueller's indictment of 13 Russians and 3 Russian entities, one of the men indicted gave orders to Russian mercenaries to attack a U.S. military base in Syria. CIA Director Mike Pompeo has confirmed that U.S. strikes killed hundreds of Russian mercenaries during the mercenary assault on a U.S. military base.[1]
The United States of America intercepted the communications of close Putin ally and oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin, we now know that Yevgeny Prigozhin gave the go ahead for Assad forces and Russian mercenaries to attack a US base in Syria a few months ago.[2]
Yevgeny Prigozhen is a member of Putin's inner circle. He has also been indicted by Special Counsel Mueller for the role he played in meddling with the 2016 election.[3] The Russian election meddling operation was a sophisticated attack against the West. This operation was funded through Russian fronts, including a catering company run by a close friend of Putin, Yevgeny Prigozhin. They used stolen American identities. Operatives bought political ads on social media sites. Operatives visited the United States, travelled across 9 states and discussed escape routes if they were caught inside the country. Operatives bought equipment including burner phones and SIM cards. This operation included hundreds of employees and millions of dollars, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein put it best - the Russians conducted information warfare during the election.[4] According to the indictment Prigozhin met Mikhail Bystrov, a leader of the Internet Research Agency (IRA), regularly in 2015 and 2016.[5] Prigozhin funded the Internet Research Agency and their meddling of the American election. This was a sophisticated operation that spanned over several years.[6] Prigozhin has been Putin's go to guy for under the table missions, including recruiting mercenaries for the conflicts in Ukraine and Syria.[7]
