A majority of voters want the next Supreme Court justice to support abortion rights, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll conducted in the immediate wake of Anthony Kennedys retirement announcement last week.
With the prospect that President Donald Trumps pending pick to replace Kennedy could join with the existing four justices appointed by Republican presidents to overturn Roe v. Wade, 52 percent of voters say they hope the new justice supports a womans right to an abortion.
Twenty-nine percent say they hope the new justice opposes abortion rights, while the remaining 19 percent dont know or have no opinion.
Democrats hope the nominee supports abortion rights by a large margin, 73 percent to 13 percent. A smaller majority of Republicans hope the nominee is opposed to abortion rights, 54 percent, compared to 31 percent who hope the nominee is supportive. Independent voters hope the next justice is a backer of abortion rights by a roughly 2-to-1 margin: 49 percent to 24 percent.

First and foremost the Federalist Society doesn't give a shit about "polls" and secondly, whoever this sexual predator picks and the senate confirms if it happens, will sit in that confirmation room hearing and will lie.........................and say that Roe vs Wade that it is established law, just to get past that question...............and has soon as some state challenges it, this person will strike it down by there opinion and vote out of the nine ................ and then some other question will be asked, with the dog and pony show...................on that sexual predator someone that could be a factor in impeachment, if this asshole eventually lies in his depositions that he must give.....................in either a sexual encounter case or the treason case......................
November 2018 cannot get here fast enough

(6,231 posts)The repubs have been working to out law abortions since 1973. They will stop at nothing. We are being ruled by the minority.

(10,779 posts)In fact, all their numbers look low -- only 57% support Dreamers and 52% gay marriage? Must have been over-represented by assholes.

(6,457 posts)will be diminished as it was in the 1950's. Employers were afraid to hire women in high decision making jobs for fear of them getting pregnant and unable to continue doing their work. The same fear was for women having credit cards, bank loans, home mortgages etc. Young women of today do not realize the control men have over their lives. You will be reduced to secretarial work and teaching, no high paying jobs for you. Forget that career you have in mind, it all ends with when the right to abortion is over turned. I know I was there.

(43,281 posts)The get-the-government-off-our-backs crowd want to control others for their own benefit. First they're in your bedroom, then in your wedding, then in your workplace, then in your bank account. There's nothing they won't seize given the opportunity.

Guess who a majority wanted as president starting January 2017? They/we didn't get that, either.

(51,627 posts)I was on a nationwide phone call with fellow activists and two senators this weekend and they said the same thing. That is why the grass roots efforts have to be working overtime this Summer to block or delay the SCOTUS confirmation. We are not going to allow it and will use the same tactics that we used to save the ACA...calls, letters, town halls, involve the press/media, protest, etc. A national day of action is Aug 26 (the date women got the right to vote). This Summer we have to nail all of our reps at their homes and at their DC offices. We can and will do this! NO SCOTUS until after the Mueller investigation is completed so there will be no obstruction of justice and conflict of interests since the court will be making decisions about the investigation and pardons, etc.

(23,970 posts)of course, i could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.
maybe Trump says FU to the evangelical base and nominates a qualified jurist who supports both Roe and Trump's ability to pardon himself.
it's a big world. a lot of unlikely things could happen.
