Paul Ryan Is Holding the Farm Bill Hostage Over Food Stamps
Source: Mother Jones
The farm billonce-every-five-years mega-legislation that shapes US agriculture and hunger policyis back on the legislative agenda. The House and Senate are jockeying for position as they prepare to reconcile their two versions, with the hope of sending a finished bill to the presidents desk before the previous bill expires on September 30.
In June, the US House narrowly passed its version, (margin: 213-211), which essentially preserved the previous bills status quo except for two big things: It would add onerous work requirements for recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Program or SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, and it would cut a key conservation program that encourages farmers to take measures that build soil and reduce chemical runoff.
President Donald Trump hailed the work requirements, signaling that hed love to sign the bill into law.

Food stamps AND it would cut a key conservation program that encourages farmers to take measures that build soil and reduce chemical runoff.
These are very evil people. I think we have different species within the human species. These are sociopaths. No heart. No compassion. No reverence for life and nature...
I just don't get these people and how they think. Puke!

(129,444 posts)The irony being that one of the main reasons why the U.S. is the top world producer of soybeans is because that crop was eventually found to be beneficial for the soil by the then up-and-coming USDA, to be used as a rotation crop for some of the more soil-killing crops like cotton back during the "dust bowl" days. It has now become a standard for rotation due to it (as a legume) being a good nitrogen fixer for the soil, notably in rotation (along with alfalfa) for the U.S.'s biggest "breadbasket" crops - wheat and corn.

Why can't we be like Norway, Sweden and other countries that suffer the same problems? Answer: Capitalism!!!!! They value life, all lives, much, much more than we have in this country for over 50 years.
