Hes the same guy who blocked a teenage migrant whod been raped from obtaining an abortion.
A Trump appointees decision to personally review requests to release migrant children from jail-like secure facilities created a bureaucratic bottleneck that dramatically increased the amount of time kids spent locked up.
Office of Refugee Resettlement chief E. Scott Lloyd ― who first attracted national interest when a federal court slapped down his attempt to ban a teenage migrant whod been raped from obtaining an abortion ― told subordinates last year that hed have to personally sign off before any kids could be released from ORRs secure facilities.
As a result, hundreds of kids spent extra time in the jail-like facilities, which have been associated with far more allegations of abuse and mistreatment than the shelters and homestays that hold most of the children in ORR custody.
Over the past two years, migrant children in federal custody have been forcibly injected with psychotropic drugs at a Shiloh Residential Treatment Center outside Houston, according to court filings. (The psychiatrist responsible for prescribing the medications lost his board certification nearly a decade ago, according to Reveal.) Others were pepper-sprayed or locked in restraints with bags over their heads as punishment for misbehaving at Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center in Virginia............................................

Five immigrant children who have been detained in federal custody are suing the Trump administration over cruel policies.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in a federal court in California, names Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and E. Scott Lloyd, the director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, as defendants.
The five children in the complaint, Lucas, Daniela, Miguel, Gabriela and Jaime, are between the ages of 12 and 17, and all arrived unaccompanied. They are not a part of the wave of children who have been separated from their parents after crossing the border under President Trumps zero tolerance policy.
The complaint alleges that the minors have been held in jail-like conditions and experienced cruel practices, including being prescribed antidepressants, that may result in lifelong trauma and emotional harm," according to BuzzFeed News.
The lawsuit also accuses the administration of violating the Flores settlement, which requires that detention of immigrant children be minimized by releasing them to family or to guardians in the U.S. The children are not being released to guardians that the governments believes are "or may be unfit.".....................................

(60,010 posts)Wouldn't be surprised if that was a factor in longer holding times.
Those for profit prisons, for example, actually have in their contracts a guarantee of certain number of prisoners/occupants a day.
Usually around 80% or higher.

Not that corporate media has noticed much of this obviousness at all.

(14,176 posts)This is one big thing that scares me about Trump in power. Not necessarily what he is doing in office now, although of course it goes without saying, but this new generation of emboldened racist assholes that will follow in Trump's wake to continue and complete the transformation of America into a full fledged fascist state. That even if Democrats win back one of the houses, or even if they win the presidency in 2020, the political roller coaster will ensure, along with the false equivalency MSM news, and RW fake news, where Democrats will be attacked every day all the time, that there will be a swing back eventually, and the next crop of Republicans will be the new Trumpists, smarter, younger, and even more vicious.
How do we fight that long term threat? We have so much on our present day plate that it seems superfluous to indulge in thinking ahead that far, but we must start to think about it and when we have any kind of power back, make sure to enact policies that can curb that enthusiasm. A new 'fairness doctrine' shaped to work with the new social media forms? How about a requirement that if you use the word "news" in your network or program name, you must adhere to a third party, nonpartisan fact check system. Something.

we can start with Flynn and pick 'em off one by one or ten by ten and including the president and all of his disgusting treasonous children and hangers on.
