'We are Q': A deranged conspiracy cult leaps from the Internet to the crowd at Trump's 'MAGA' tour

Source: WaPo

On Tuesday evening, the dark recesses of the Internet lit up with talk of politics.

“Tampa rally, live coverage,” wrote “Dan,” posting a link to President Trump’s Tampa speech in a thread on 8chan, an anonymous image board also known as Infinitechan or Infinitychan, which might be best described as the unglued twin of better-known 4chan, a message board already untethered from reality.

The thread invited “requests to Q,” an anonymous user claiming to be a government agent with top security clearance, waging war against the so-called deep state in service to the 45th president. “Q” feeds disciples, or “bakers,” scraps of intelligence, or “bread crumbs,” that they scramble to bake into an understanding of the “storm,” the community’s term — drawn from Trump’s cryptic reference last year to “the calm before the storm” — for the president’s final conquest over elites, globalists and deep-state saboteurs.

What Tuesday’s rally in Tampa made apparent is that devotees of these falsehoods — some of which are specific to faith in the president, others garden-variety nonsense with racist and anti-Semitic undertones — don’t just exist in the far reaches of the Web.

And now any Republican who wants to run for office must pander to these crazies or else they won't turn out and the Democrat will win.

No: There are other photos, such as you posted, showing the veracity of the presence of those signs.

Yes: The OP image was blurred in Photoshop or equivalent around the signs to highlight them. The blurring is not a depth of field artifact of the camera because on the sides there is blurring continuously from behind the plane of the signs to areas in front of the plane of the signs; in other words right through the plane of focus. Even the chyron below is blurred that would normally be at least as sharp as the sharpest area in the photograph. Manual blurring is added in post-production.

They’re right-wing computer nerds who don’t have a life and are too socially inept to get one, so they bury themselves in conspiracy theories and plans to radicalize the world so they can feel alive. It’s sad that some parents are raising kids like that today, along with those who are just straight out racists and immigrant haters.

"They Want You Divided"
Q has repeated the phrase, "They Want You Divided" in 10 Q drops.
...
One week Trump tells us that the redacted IG report contains bad information about bad people (accurate) and the next week he complains about "useless" Jeff Sessions (inaccurate). I can't genuinely fault the intelligence of people who believe what Trump tells us; without Q, how would we know when we're watching POTUS or the game he's playing?

Our forum FReepers aren't stupid for trusting the president. POTUS routinely deceives savvy heads of state, despite the efforts of countless intel agencies, world-wide on a regular basis; the inability to predict what Trump "really" intends to do is part of the human condition.

Most noobs arriving these days, were not reading along with us when Q531 dropped (And yes, I know we still have trolls arriving pretending to be noobs). In Q531, we learned of a famous chess maneuver wherein the winning strategy is defensive, with the victor giving every impression of losing throughout the game, right up until the victorious end. The president plays the game so well - those in the forum who believe he is losing provide the necessary optics to the MSM and our media - but those who believe we are losing our country are suffering throughout the game.
...

Q Ping - NEW DROPS
Welcome to our new Q thread. We have much to be grateful for - more winning awaits!

Attention Prayer Warriors:
Please pray for the protection and success of POTUS, our military, and all patriots.
Please pray for victory over the enemies of the cabal, deep state, pedos and Satanists - that they be exposed and brought to justice.

Podesta, et al

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/ywex8v/what-is-qanon-conspiracy-theory

"Wielding the plausible-enough-sounding details and sprawling shadow government plot of a lesser Dan Brown novel, Q began slowly painting a picture of a reality far different from the one we live in. The resulting QAnon conspiracy theory states that Trump is not under investigation by Robert Mueller. Instead, Trump is merely playing the part of hapless conspiratorial criminal while covertly helping the special counsel pursue their true quarry: Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Podesta, and all the other liberal boogeymen. (It gets a LOT crazier than that, but that's the core plot.)"

marginalized as they should be. They bubbled up in the '80s with Raygun and were eventually bankrupted and crushed by the time we reached the '90s under Clinton (e.g., one of the primary Klan groups was forced to give up their HQ). Interesting summary of that era here.

But they eventually built themselves back up to a critical mass with a new generation (thanks to the Koch-financed astroturf teabaggers) and it only took one man to "activate them" on the heels of the election of the first black President.

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jul/30/qanon-4chan-rightwing-conspiracy-theory-explained-trump

....Meet Q

On 28 October 2017, “Q” emerged from the primordial swamp of the internet on the message board 4chan. In a thread called “Calm Before the Storm”, and in subsequent posts, Q established his legend as a government insider with top security clearance who knew the truth about a secret struggle for power involving Donald Trump, the “deep state”, Robert Mueller, the Clintons, pedophile rings, and other stuff.

Imagine a mix of Pizzagate, InfoWars and the Satanic Panic of the 1980s, multiplied by the power of the internet

Since then, Q has continued to drop “breadcrumbs” on 4chan and 8chan, fostering a “QAnon” community devoted to decoding Q’s messages and understanding the real truth about, well, everything.
What do followers of QAnon believe?

It’s hard to say. The conspiracy theory is generally pro-Trump and anti-“deep state”, but it is not exactly coherent, and – like many conspiracy theories – is flexible enough to adapt to any new developments that might disprove it.

New York magazine and the Daily Beast have written articles explaining more of the basic beliefs of QAnon, but chances are that the more you read about it, the more confused you will be. Imagine a volatile mix of Pizzagate, InfoWars and the Satanic Panic of the 1980s, multiplied by the power of the internet and with an extra boost from a handful of conservative celebrities.

So celebrities believe in QAnon? ...................

These people are insane, they are sheeple, they are all armed and they are waiting for their leaders to tell them it’s “weapons free” against Democrats, liberals, minorities, Chads and Stacys, the press, and anyone else they don’t like.

Q plays on the theme of some group of specially selected individuals (of which you will never be invited) secretly rules the world. But by believing in a special cause, you can change the predestined outcome and be free!

Today the evil group is called "The Deep State".

This group formerly went by names such as:

Illuminati
Knights Templar
The Club of Rome
Bohemian Grove
Jesuits
Tavistock Institute
Free Masons
Thule Society
Vril Society
Atlantis
Archons
Reptilians and Grey Aliens
Hollow Earth

Feel free to add to the list.
