Poll: Senate race between Cruz, O'Rourke a dead heat
Source: The Hill
The Texas Senate race between Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) is neck and neck, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
The 2018 Texas Lyceum Poll showed Cruz leading O'Rourke by a hair 41-39 percent among likely voters. That's well within the survey's margin of error of 4.67 percentage points.
That's a particularly tight margin for Texas, which has not elected a Democrat to the Senate in three decades.

(5,954 posts)...having to pull every dirty trick in their tool box (voter suppression, push polls, voter caging, gerrymandering) in a State they used to take for granted would be pretty sweet. Senator Haney will have to sell quite a lot of genuine Hooville rutabagas to keep his seat!

Then he could go back to Canada, and we wouldn't hear any more about Ted Scuz for pretzeldent. He would be worse than tRump.

The hair actually rises on my neck just looking at him! Women of Texas? You could actually vote for this creep? REALLY?

(6,556 posts)I've had the same feeling since the first time I saw him. I put Cruz and trump in the loser category during the debates. ewww! Unfortunately, somehow trump survived those debates and it wasn't his debate skills that did it.

(6,278 posts)Writing in Psychology Today, Cytowic noted that Cruzs atypical expressions left him uneasy, and that he was not alone among people who have watched Cruz up-close and from afar.
Note how many colleagues and former associates loathe him. A Bush alumnus told the New York Times Frank Bruni, Why do people take such an instant dislike to Ted Cruz? It just saves time. Former Senate Majority leader Bob Dole says, Nobody likes him, while Rep. Peter King sees malice.' Cytowic wrote. According to The Washington Post, screenwriter Craig Mazin, Cruzs former Princeton roommate, has called him a huge asshole, and creepy. Hes Tweeted, Getting emails blaming me for not smothering Ted Cruz in his sleep in 1988. The distaste for Cruz even extends beyond the US: Germans say Backpfeifengesicht, meaning a face in need of a good punch.
According to Cytowic, the distaste for Cruzs face starts with his smile.

(7,768 posts)I think it was Al Franken that said something like this, "Look, I like Ted Cruz more than anyone else in the Senate does...and I can't STAND him".
catrose
(5,068 posts)He didn't mention Cruz' looks, but said Cruz flat out lied to him over something he'd said, that everyone heard Cruz say. He just said, "I didn't say that" and walked away. Franken was done with him at that point.
Sam Bee had the definitive description of Cruz: "a used condom in a Gideon Bible." Pretty much captures the EEEWW factor.

(11,885 posts)Not just his support is abandoning him for his vote for the tax scam ,and helping to destroy healthcare, Medicaid , Medicare , and now Social Security, he has another storm heading his way with what he's done. Its coming, and just a matter of time. No one lies as much as him that isn't corrupt. Him refusing to stand up against corrupt and treasonous trump has backfired badly on him

(28,266 posts)I've seen several of both, for Beto. And like most of Texas, I'm in a conservative area. Cruz is finally reaping the ugly crop of hatred he's sown for so many years---nobody can stand him, anymore. I'd sure like to see him go down and out.

LOL I stop at houses w/ Beto signs and ask if they want signs for the Texas House candidate in our district. They always say yes. Another team is asking to plant signs for our Congressional Candidate. They say yes. Eventually everyone who has one of these signs ends up with the other two.
AND most of these are in yards which do not usually put them out. I have never ever seen so many yard signs in the 19 years I have lived here. Even Obama.

(20,204 posts)20% of the surveyed voters are undecided. Those voters aren't Democrats! Romney got 57% of the vote in Texas in 2012, the year Cruz was elected to the Senate. In 2016, Trump got 52% of the vote in Texas. The GOP is already shrinking in Texas.

Definitely the heartland, good hardworking people, so busy working they don't get all the news they should, probably just Fox because you don't need cable, and forget WiFi cause that's only at the restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Lubbock: Jesus, Jesus, Jesus and repeat throughout the tour, with our lovely tour of Ft. Worth Water Garden interrupted by Kennth Copeland Ministries trying to save us. I was raised in the church, but this was scary and upsetting. Beto needs to tour where they don't hear as much about him, and show his own family values cause that's what it is all about. ~

(22,264 posts)before November. Holding town halls in the Congressional Districts where their House member doesn't. He did that here in Tarrant County last summer and with a week's notice and 2 venue changes, had 600 people in a venue where you have to pay to park! Tarrant is the last metropolitan county that is still red; Fort Worth itself is blue. He drew 1000 average at 5 events here around state convention time, all over the DFW area. He has it right on this campaign.
Kim Olson is also hitting these counties. She holds group meetings with farmers to find out what they need, and rally type events to discuss how everyone is impacted by agriculture. She knows her stuff and is a dynamo on stage.

Back in 2008, these same areas had nothing but McCain/Palin everywhere.
It will be close, and I think it's winnable for us, but Cruz still has the advantage. There are tons of wing nuts here.
