Pompeo: Kim Jong Un Is Breaking His Nuke Agreement With Trump
Source: The Daily Beast
One day after Donald Trump praised Kim Jong Un for keeping [his] word and returning the remains of U.S. troops from the Korean War, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has accused the North Korean leader of breaking the promises he made to the president. There have been reports that North Korea is continuing to make bomb fuel and new missiles despite Kim telling Trump that he was committed to denuclearization. Chairman Kim made a commitment to denuclearize, Pompeo told reporters en route to Singapore. The world demanded that they [North Korea] do so in the U.N. Security Council resolutions. To the extent they are behaving in a manner inconsistent with that, they are a) in violation of one or both of the U.N. Security Council resolutions and b) we can see we still have a ways to go to achieve the ultimate outcome were looking for. In the summit with Trump in Singapore on June 12, Kim committed in a broad statement to work toward denuclearization, but Pyongyang has offered no further details as to how it might go about this.

(808 posts)The orange anus and his sidekick Pompous ass have been hoodwinked by a little fat dictator. I am sure he is laughing and rolling on the floor at how easy it was. Hillary Clinton made fat ass Pompeo look like a total fool in the Benghazi hearings. Anyone could see he was in way over his empty head. As for the orange anus, he is just a dumb ass from the get go.

(65,076 posts)Well, they reported this one, even though everyone with a brain knew that all that happened was they had a piece of paper that said they'd perhaps, maybe, talk about some of this stuff sometime in the future but not for sure.
The maladministration blasted out their boasts, the media covered it, the masses think something good happened, and now this.
So much winning.

(3,299 posts)That is, at the same time as realizing denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, to establish a peace mechanism. This direction is without a doubt correct,
Here's the relevant portion of the summit statement:
1. The United States and the DPRK commit to establish new U.S.DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity.
2. The United States and the DPRK will join their efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.
3. Reaffirming the April 27, 2018 Panmunjom Declaration, the DPRK commits to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
4. The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains, including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.
The words "at the same time" reflect the position that Russia, China, North Korea, and South Korea, see from a very similar perspective, emphasizing trust building, performance reciprocity, and concrete measures to build a "peace regime." The US and Japan are on the other side, emphasizing a "one sided approach," namely "complete denuclearization" first. They are primarily focused on (3). So are the national media.
To get the summit Pompeo proposed a Complete Verifiable Irreversible Guarantee for North Korean security. (CVIG for CVID) Trump said he would consider a declaration to end the state of war represented by the armistice. Since the summit, nothing said about this. Pompeo refused to discuss it the last time he was in Pyongyang. They want the inventory of nuclear weapons facilities in North Korea and an inspection and verification process. In other words, they want what is from a North Korean perspective, a target list, without providing the security guarantees.
