Weapon checks, bomb-sniffing police dogs to greet protesters Saturday in Portland
Source: The Oregonian
The Portland Police Bureau is preparing for a potentially violent showdown between dueling demonstrators Saturday, with a ramped-up law enforcement presence and checkpoints throughout the main protest area to screen for weapons.
Hundreds of people are expected to descend on downtown to oppose a march and rally organized by Joey Gibson and his right-wing group Patriot Prayer, which says it plans to bring supporters from around the country.
Those active in the movement nationwide say Gibson's so-called "March For Freedom" may become the largest right-wing demonstration in the U.S. this year.

(7,542 posts)you are engaging in a form of terrorism...doesn't matter which side you support. Crowd protection barriers should be erected by local law enforcement to protect protesters from vehicular terrorists like we saw in Charlotte.

As much as I don't want to see human v human violence, neither do I want to see another police dogs hurt/killed.

(58,785 posts)Here in this deep south community people refused to be downtown during the tiny annual KKK parade. Hard on the businesses, but after a few events that made exactly the statement they didn't want, this county's KKKers gave up.
As an alternative, what I would like to see is what the press did not show in Charleston: The large number of people who lined the streets to quietly express their rejection. Photographers had to work on their camera angles to get only the aggressive ones in front who gave a better show.
