DNC spokeswoman calls for reforming ICE, not abolishing it

Democratic National Committee (DNC) communications director Xochitl Hinojosa called for the reform of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Monday but stopped short of endorsing calls from progressive candidates and lawmakers to abolish the government agency.
ICE needs to be reformed. Theres no doubt about that," Hinojosa told Hill.TV's Buck Sexton and Krystal Ball on "Rising."
Hinojosa blamed President Trump's policies for the deficiencies of ICE, however, saying "but I think that whenever youre talking about something like ICE, the problem is at the top."
"Whenever you have immigration enforcement, and youve heard Republicans talk about this, they want to build a wall because it excites their base, they dont want to build a wall because it is actually good public policy," she said. "It's [similar] with ICE, it's at the top. The way that you get rid and reform ICE is reforming at the top and electing Democrats, and so thats getting rid of Donald Trump.

A sensible position. Advocating for abolishing ICE without a strategy for what replaces it is meaningless symbolism.

Calling ICE out for their misdeeds and reforming it with proper guidelines and safeguards would hopefully do some good. Removing protection for the officers who commit crimes against people would be the best thing that could happen for ICE and maybe lead to removing protection from police officers for the same things.
