The Latest: Arrests made at protest of private prison firm

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Latest on protests at CoreCivic (all times local):

1 p.m.

Police have begun arresting protesters who are blocking the entrances to the headquarters of private prison operator CoreCivic.

The Tennessee-based company is one of the nation's largest private prison operators and also runs eight immigration detention centers for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The No Exceptions Prison Collective wants all those facilities closed.

though not as a guard, but as a clinician.

I can confirm, though, they suck. But I have to say again, it's not the corporation so much - but the pay scale and the lack of rehab. mandate. If you put in too few guards and there is little to no incentive for the inmates......well, it's terrible.

FWIW, I've also worked in a state run prison (my program was privatized, but the institution was run by FL) and it ALSO sucked. I didn't see much difference.

Anyway, close them down - I'm all for it. But until prisons embrace a rehab. model and work with the inmates (I mean a good rehab model). They will all suck. Public and private alike.
