Trump's military parade is now estimated to cost $92 million – $80 million more than earlier estimate

President Donald Trump's military parade is estimated to cost $92 million, according to a U.S. defense official with firsthand knowledge of the assessment.

An earlier estimate pegged the cost at $12 million.

The parade will take place in the nation's capital on Nov. 10 and will feature armored vehicles, aircraft flyovers and period uniforms.

President Donald Trump's military parade this fall is shaping up to cost $80 million more than initially estimated.

The Department of Defense and its interagency partners have updated their perspective cost estimates for the parade, according to a U.S. defense official with firsthand knowledge of the assessment. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The parade, slated for Nov. 10, is estimated to cost $92 million, the official said. The figure consists of $50 million from the Pentagon and $42 million from interagency partners such as the Department of Homeland Security. An initial estimate last month pegged the prospective cost for the parade at $12 million.

A Pentagon spokesman said in an email to CNBC that the Defense Department expects to make an announcement soon, but he would not comment further. The White House referred questions to the Defense Department.

you know full well it's actually much higher, and by the time it actually happens - if it happens - it will be well into 9 figures. Hell, with that kind of money, Betsy Devos can buy a couple of yachts.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it will not happen, and that the sunk costs in planning already exceed the original $12 million.

Cost overruns are inevitable. If it's $90m now, it'll be $200m by November.

Not that tax money matters to republicans as long as it isn't going to the needy. The whole thing just nauseates me.

He wants the world to see the military salute him.

Will it be awkward when he refuses POWs a place in his parade?
After all, Donald does not like soldiers who were captured.

We asked, you voted: 89 percent said no to Trump’s military parade

By: Tara Copp February 8

As the Pentagon continues to work on parade options to present to President Donald Trump, an overwhelming number of Military Times readers have weighed in: Don’t have one.

The informal poll was launched Wednesday after news reports that Trump had requested a military parade and that the Pentagon was working on parade options for him.

As of Thursday afternoon, more than 51,000 readers had responded. The majority, 89 percent, responded “No, It’s a waste of money and troops are too busy.”

Trying really, really hard not to be paranoid but it's difficult to say which theory is stupider:

1. Donald Trump wants to bring a shitload of troops into Washington DC to quell protests after he steals the midterm elections (or at least blocking up all the roads the weekend after the election and having an excuse to deny permits to protestors); or

2. Donald Trump is such a massive fucking baby he thinks spending $92 million on a parade is justifiable.

for the purpose of giving the orange one strokes for his itty bitty ego. I strongly protest the use of defense money for this purpose. The guy in the White House has been spending taxpayer money like a drunken sailor on shore leave. His ego isn't worth $92 million. Put that money in providing homes for homeless veterans instead.

Yet stable genius kills our troops in his sh.thole countries by refusing them the resources to do their jobs.

Too bad the CinC cannot be court martialed for dereliction of duty.

Trump says he knows more then the generals.

All that spare time playing golf when he could have been planning missions and not killing soldiers by assigning less qualified underlings to the task of mission planning.

Our military requested more resources for Niger mission(s) but the Trump administration refused them.

The Tienanmein Square protest was crushed -- people were crushed by tanks. It did not end well because China has an authoritarian regime.

It remains to be seen whether we can do better here in 2018.
