A federal judge issued a nationwide injunction Thursday on the Trump administration's order delaying the Clean Water Rule, making the Obama-era regulation applicable in the 26 states that have not blocked it, E&E News reports.
The United States District Court in South Carolina found that the Environmental Protection Agency had violated rulemaking procedures in delaying the regulation, also known as the Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule, which protects wetlands and tributaries under the Clean Water Act. Previously, a federal judge ruled in favor of states seeking to get out of these regulations.
Environmental groups have criticized the delay as an attempt to strip U.S. waterways of protections. "Without the clarity provided by the Clean Water Rule, the agencies are forced to apply a case-by-case scheme that fails to protect streams and wetlands," the Southern Environmental Law Center, which appealed a block of the rule in 11 states, said in a statement last month. ..................................

(37,648 posts)there is one thing about RW judges. Tools are tools, but judges do sometimes issue rulings that are not as biased as a Congressional rep would like. There are some who do try to stick to the rule of law, whether they like it or not.

(28,798 posts)sigh.
i just am daily amazed that trump keeps getting away with it, that there are so many people aiding, abetting, and following their own despicable agendas and all to the detriment of the people and democracy. I'm 62, almost 63 years old, and i'm still gobsmacked. i just never dreamed this would be happening in my lifetime.
republicans. they could steer this abomination away from the cliff but they don't and they won't and i'm both horrified and thoroughly disgusted.
