President Trump won't rule out revoking Robert Mueller's security clearance, says he could 'run' the

Source: NY Daily News

President Trump wouldn’t rule out revoking special counsel Robert Mueller’s security clearance on Monday and claimed he could “run” the Russia investigation if he so pleased, invoking possibilities that national security experts say would take the country into uncharted territory.

In a wide-ranging Oval Office interview with Reuters, the President escalated his criticism of Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion and conceded that, while he hasn’t given it much thought, he won’t completely preclude the possibility of rescinding the special counsel’s clearance in a similar way to how he stripped ex-CIA Director John Brennan of his clearance last week.

“I’ve decided to stay out,” Trump said of Mueller’s probe. “Now, I don’t have to stay out, as you know. I can go in and I could…do whatever. I could run it if I want.”

The President expressed particular concern that Mueller could catch him in a lie if his statements are compared with testimony from witnesses in the probe, such as ex-FBI Director James Comey. “That’s no good,” Trump said.

I don't even know what to make of a statement like this. It sounds like he's flat out admitting that he's going to lie to Mueller if and when he testifies. Am I missing something here?

But I wonder if this happened--would it be the last straw for Republicans??????

................National security experts were stunned by Trump’s refusal to say whether he might revoke Mueller’s clearance and said doing so would effectively “shut down” the special counsel investigation.

“The reaction would be the same as if Trump fired Mueller because Mueller would no longer be able to read the files that his team has been developing,” Alexander Vershbow, a former U.S. ambassador to South Korea and a member of President Bill Clinton’s National Security Council, told the Daily News. “Just about everything has an intelligence component to it that you need a clearance for.”

Vershbow, who still holds a security clearance, said he hopes Trump’s threat is “idle.”

“If it’s not an idle threat we are talking about something of the caliber of the Saturday Night Massacre,” Vershbow said, referencing President Richard Nixon’s mass firing of Justice Department officials at the height of the Watergate scandal. “It’s wild and reckless.”

if this isn't the most ludicrous thing he's said yet. There's been so many to choose from.

This guy is just bat shit crazy and why he isn't in restraints lying in a mental institution is beyond me. The expression "delusions of grandeur" comes to mind.

We should make all criminals investigate their own case. It would be a great way to eliminate prison overcrowding.

...but we are getting close.

He's slowly taking over the courts...but the silver lining, it has been backfiring. Thank the founders for life time appointments for that...it makes them immune to politics to an extent. However, their personal politics.... John Adams insured Federalist political policies for a couple of generations after he lost to Thomas Jefferson.

And then there is the monkey wrench in the machine...Congress. We fail to take at least the house, then its patriotic Republicans vs. Trump...and we all know how much of a rare breed they are these days.
