Trump Threatens to Pull Clearance For CNNs Phil Mudd After Seeing Him on TV: Hes In No Mental Condition
President Donald Trump is adding CNN contributor Phil Mudd to the list of intelligence officials who might lose their security clearance for criticizing him.
Mudd, a former CIA officer, attracted a lot of attention last week over his explosive showdown with pro-Trump commentator Paris Dennard. The two debated whether Trump is using security clearance revocation to punish his foes, and Mudd blew up after Dennard accused officials like him of profiting from their clearance by securing media commentary positions.
As it were, Fox News Sean Hannity made fun of Mudds complete meltdown on his show tonight, and obviously, Trump was watching.

(7,398 posts)Hannity's ties with Cohen have sort of been overlooked as of late, but if Cohen was taping Trump he damn sure was also taping Hannity.

(19,863 posts)been shilling for Trump, I've never seen Dennard do a cogent argument. Trump is unhinged.

(26 posts)Security clearances for a traitor like him? He should be in solitary confinement in Leavenworth, KS with zero privileges granted.

(4,035 posts)An unhinged compromat with mental issues himself is calling someone else unstable? That would be funny if it wasnt so SAD. Sad for the country, and sad for democracy.
We are perilously close to a game changer. The midterms are crucial, and again, conceivably rigged or influenced by Russians for the Repugs to retain control.

(15,286 posts)Ensuring security clearances retire when the federal employee/political appointee does would put a quick stop to the revolving door from govt to private industry and back.
I'm a retired federal civil servant and I can assure you when the "consultants" needed information to give to the organization that hired them, they called me. There are plenty of civil servants left able to give the history of any particular action.

(22,756 posts)but... "ensuring security clearances retire when the federal employee/political appointee does" allows politicians like #notmypresident to keep things hidden...

(22,137 posts)clearances any longer. I've heard that over 4 million people have some sort of clearances...quite a few.
A ?...what if you learned something while having a high clearance, and then later, in life, you don't have that clearance any longer. They (the ones w/ the clearances before) may know something that they can only know if they had that original clearance.
So in effect, someone knows something that they no longer have the clearance for? Make sense? It doesn't to me.

(15,286 posts)is crazy. Not only do too many people hold security clearances, but way too much material is classified that doesn't need to be. I've held confidential and secret clearances and went through the top secret clearance process before the program that required it was canned. You can't really forget what you know and there are plenty of ways to discuss a problem involving classified material without disclosing actual classified material.

(22,137 posts)whole process needs rework. I certainly understand the need for it, but as you say, too many things are placed into this category and too many folks probably have clearances that don't need it.
Thanks again for clearing up for me, take care!
