Joe Arpaio's campaign in chaos in final days of Arizona's U.S. Senate race
Source: Arizona Republic
Joe Arpaios campaign for the U.S. Senate is in turmoil as it enters the final days before the primary.
Although Arizonas GOP establishment never took Arpaios candidacy seriously casting it as a way to keep the 86-year-old Fountain Hills grandfather busy and out of the house after Maricopa County voters booted him out of the Sheriff's Office in 2016 he still could be the spoiler in the three-way Republican primary.
But a week before the Aug. 28 Republican primary, Arpaio's campaign appears to be flailing.
Chad Willems, Arpaios campaign manager of 20 years, is no longer involved in the campaign's day-to-day operations. And Arpaio has added two new staff members who some claim are more interested in seeking vengeance against one of the former sheriff's two Republican primary opponents, former state Sen. Kelli Wardthan guiding him to victory.

(32,019 posts)The Republican establishment in AZ is supporting Congresswoman McSally. Arpaio is in the race to draw off votes from ultra conservative Kelli Ward. This strategy will work and McSally will win the primary.

(5,470 posts)I always felt he entered the race just to make some cash. He knows he has no shot whatsoever in becoming a Senator. However, whatever dollars the rubes send his way, he can keep for himself after his primary loss.

(5,470 posts)If he turns it over to, or if it's in a PAC, the FEC rules don't apply. If he drops out, he can say he's keeping the cash for another election run. Then there's always the possibility of laundering it somehow when no ones looking.
