Neo-Nazis, Counter-Demonstrators Rally In Swedish Capital

Source: Associated Press

4 hrs. ago.

STOCKHOLM — More than 200 supporters of the neo-Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement have staged a rally in the Swedish capital, chanting slogans and waving the group's green-and-white flags.

A six-hour rally was approved by Swedish police, who deployed a strong security presence around Stockholm's Kungsholmstorg Square. But after just a few hours, the crowds wilted and a march was canceled.

Police had warned of potential disturbances across the city but no violence was seen. Local media reported that a counter-rally drew about 200 people.

The neo-Nazi group is anti-European Union, anti-gay and anti-immigration. The rally took place ahead of Sweden's Sept. 9 general election, in which immigration is a key issue.

The neo-Nazi march was among dozens of events held across Stockholm on Saturday, including an animal rights' march that drew 500 people...End.

Putin’s Russian agenda of chaos, disinformation, division, pro-white supremacy, anti-European Union, anti-gay and anti-immigration is being implemented across Europe, the UK and the US.

that this is allowed in the USA. We have had several neo-Nazi events scheduled and many of us have been in the protest groups at them. In the US they are allowed peaceful protests under the 1st amendment and we are allowed counter protests under the same amendment. Just because neo-Nazi protests/ parades are held does not mean the nation they are held in support them.

Neo or any other type of nazi protest is illegal. They remember their history and would rather not repeat it.

"When you tear out a man's tongue you're not proving him a liar. You're only telling the world you fear what he might say." Outlawing speech that we dislike or disagree with isn't going to magically make things better. All it would do is make the scumbags slightly more circumspect in their behavior.

You lost me at tearing out a man's tongue. I was referring to the EU not allowing Nazi demonstrations. I don't know where you are coming from.

In an earlier post, you acknowledged that the First Amendment protects neo-Nazis' right to protest and speak, while protecting the right of others to counterprotest. Then you said that the EU were smart for outlawing neo-Nazi demonstrations and that we could learn from them.

From that I inferred that you'd accept/support laws outlawing demonstrations by neo-Nazis, depriving them of their First Amendment rights. The saying about tearing out a man's tongue was an attempt to point out that banning speech doesn't stop it. All it would do is force the affected groups to be more subtle.
