BREAKING: A federal judge in D.C. postponed Paul Manaforts trial on conspiracy and money laundering charges related to his lobbying work until Sept. 24. It had been set to begin Sept. 17.
Prosecutors and attorneys for Paul Manafort are set to appear Tuesday morning in federal court in Washington to argue over whether evidence of his alleged past bad acts should be shown to a jurors at his September trial.
Special counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIs prosecutors have asked U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson to introduce such evidence, arguing it could help convince jurors that President Trumps former campaign chairman knowingly committed charged crimes, including conspiring against the United States, money laundering and obstructing justice.
Manaforts attorneys asked Jackson to reject the requests, saying the law bars prosecutors from using past acts simply to suggest a defendant is likely to commit crimes.

(129,356 posts)1.) All the rumors (notably yesterday's WSJ story) about apparent discussions going on for a plea deal associated with this particular trial
2.) Mueller has to apparently decide by tomorrow whether to retry on the counts that were declared a mistrial
3.) The longer the trial is delayed, the closer to the mid-terms and the "artificial" courtesy that keeps getting reiterated (but was not followed during the 2016 election thanks to Comey) about going "mum" with investigations within 60 days of an election.

(129,356 posts)'cause the Ghoul wants it all wrapped up asap (so it doesn't interfere with the midterms) and he will be pressuring Manafort's attorneys.... But then Manafort does want to delay in order to limit the scope of testimony since they are dealing with a whole different type of jury pool in D.C., and especially if there is no guarantee of a pardon on the horizon!

(7,725 posts)bring charges. Nothing should delay bringing charges. I know what the ghoul said, I want it done sooner rather than later too. Rudy thinks sooner means "he isnt going to find anything." and i don't think that's the case. We need a few charges to bolster the Senate and Congress to NOT allow a charged president to seat a supreme court justice. (ANOTHER ONE)

(129,356 posts)No you don't. There have been dozens of charges against multiple people without Mueller's investigation being wrapped up. There is the whole NRA/Russia-funneled campaign money issue (and they have Maria Butina in custody potentially related to that) and you have the Wikileaks-Assange/Guccifer 2.0-Russia DNC hacking issues that are apparently being looked at now (re: Roger Stone).
So still much more to go IMHO.
