Secret cash aided politicians who rewrote Wisconsin law to block claims of lead-poisoned children

While these children had compelling personal stories, NL Industries had something even more powerful on its side: Republican politicians facing recall elections in 2011 and 2012 who secretly benefitted from $750,000 contributed by NL's owner, Harold Simmons, to an "independent" political group.

At the request of NL's lobbyist, Republicans inserted a handful of words into the 2013-15 state budget that sought to halt such lead-paint lawsuits, including the one filed by Yasmine, according to a memo obtained by the Center for Media and Democracy, a left-leaning watchdog organization that exposes corruption in government.

The politicians' effort -- ultimately blocked by judges -- demonstrates the power of secret contributions to reshape state law while the public is kept in the dark.

lil' Bush appointed Norton to run the Dept. of Interior. She was a lobbyist for the Lead Industry - you know - the good folks who want to put lead back into gasoline and think lead paint in houses with children is a good mix. An utterly un-decent human appointed by a war criminal. These people don't give a fuck about us, they really don't.

Could not find the article but Strickland before he left office put in place safety rules for lead paint on children's toys and the first thing Kasich did in office was to undo them.

The GOP only cares about money.

It was the very first day he was governor in fact it would have been sometime between midnight and daylight. Could be he has changed, but I thought how horrible could the GOP possibly be.
