China's Xi offers $60 bn Africa aid, says 'no strings attached'
Source: Agence France-Presse

President Xi Jinping told African leaders Monday that China's investments on the continent have "no political strings attached", pledging $60 billion in new development financing, even as Beijing is increasingly criticised over its debt-heavy projects abroad.
Xi offered the funding at the start of a two-day China-Africa summit that focused on his cherished Belt and Road initiative. The money -- to be spent over the next three years -- comes on top of $60 billion Beijing offered in 2015.
The massive Belt and Road scheme is aimed at improving Chinese access to foreign markets and resources, and boosting Beijing's influence abroad.
China has poured billions in loans for roads, railways, ports and other major infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa.

But don't worry: An AU-official (who was not bribed at all) assured the public that nothing important was talked about anyways in that building.

It's stupid as the African continent is rich in natural resources.

(13,926 posts)Agree, and it's also about cheap labor to produce the products of those natural resources. With their burgeoning economy and their middle class exploding they need low income people to do that work. Japan in the late 40's? cheap labor. Taiwan in the 50's? cheap labor. India and China in the '70's and '80's? cheap labor.

FSG was given the contract of providing logistical support to the Somali South West States Administration councils Free Zone Investment Authority (FZIA), which is designed to attract foreign investments into the southern Somalia region with the intent on creating jobs, reanimate the flaccid economy, and inject wealth and prosperity back into the war-torn south. All of which will need Princes trademark advanced protective services to keep his Chinese and possibly United Arab Emirates (UAE) investors money secure.

Is stabilization for capitalism all we're about? Or destabilization for "disaster capitalism." No one has addressed Americans about this. The Big Decision Club knows, but we ain't in it.
