Trump says Congress should pass farm bill with food stamp work requirements

Source: Reuters

SEPTEMBER 5, 2018 / 9:41 AM / UPDATED 27 MINUTES AGO

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday the final agriculture bill that the U.S. Congress sends to him to sign into law should include work requirements for people receiving food stamps, the grocery subsidies officially called “SNAP.”

“#FarmBill with SNAP work requirements will bolster farmers and get America back to work. Pass the Farm Bill with SNAP work requirements!” Trump tweeted, as the two chambers of Congress begin reconciling separate bills that they recently passed into a single piece of legislation for him to sign.

A large bicameral committee will meet on Wednesday to begin negotiating the final bill, with the hope of completing its work before the current law expires on Sept. 30.

More than 40 million eligible, low-income Americans use SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, to subsidize their groceries. Authorization for SNAP funding is included in the sweeping agriculture bill that also covers crop subsidies, rural development, and conservation.

or wonder where his next meal was coming from.

I hate it when people who are enabled by an unjust system of power make decisions that affect people with no power, who get only table scraps. And then begrudge them for what little they get.

Need assistance?

Come work at the White House. The president can supervise them, since he seems to have no responsibilities. He’s got time.

ps...I am being ridiculous, because I am so sick of talking/thinking about this know nothing buffoon, who has somehow managed to get himself installed into another job that he won’t be able to do.

I pity the fool who can’t even understand why there may be people that need monetary assistance, temporarily or otherwise.

Resign, you incompetent loser, and let someone take over who can at least get through one damn hour without harming this country.

Federal Legislation on SNAP Work Requirements
Current federal law states that adults ages 18-59 receiving SNAP benefits are required to work part-time or agree to accept a job if offered one. Stricter rules apply to able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) that are 18-49, who are subject to a three-month limit of benefits in three years unless they meet a work requirement of 80 hours per month.

The federal regulatory minimum requires that ABAWDs between the ages of 18 and 49:

Register for work.
Participate in an employment and training (E&T) or workforce program, if assigned.
Refrain from voluntarily quitting a job or reducing hours below 30 hours a week.
Failure to meet these requirements results in disqualification from SNAP for one month for the first instance, three months for the second, and six months for the third.

People who have never had to depend on any type of government assistance always assume that it's easy to get. The fact is that you don't just walk in and tell them what you need, you go through the application process and they tell you what you are eligible for.

They figure adults run down and sign up and get checks from the Guberment until the sun burns out,as long as you never work again. In fact if you don't have a job in 24 months your OFF Welfare/TANF. 60 months is the LIFETIME max for receiving Federal TANF benefits. States have different cut off rules but in Kansas your State assistance ends in 48 months.

Meanwhile farmers have been getting Gov assistance for about 80+ YEARS.

I thought he was just touting how low he had personally driven the unemployment rate.

So much wrong here. A man who thinks his job is golfing and tweeting has the gall to question other peoples' work ethic. He has to be the biggest hypocrite in history, and he is utterly blind to it.
