Judge orders Shaun Brown's name removed from ballot, citing fraud (VA-2)
Source: Virginian-Pilot
A judge ordered independent congressional candidate Shaun Browns name removed from the Nov. 6 ballot, ruling Wednesday that her petitions contained numerous forged voter signatures and involved out and out fraud.
Just before making his ruling, Richmond Circuit Judge Gregory Rupe told Democratic Party lawyers he agreed with their arguments that Brown needed to be removed because members of Rep. Scott Taylors campaign staff collected fraudulent signatures to assist Brown and many petitions may have been illegally notarized before being turned into the State Department of Elections.
Im buying almost all of what you all are selling, Rupe said, looking at attorneys Jeffrey Breit and Aria Branch. Theres no doubt in my mind that there are instances of forgery
perjury and out and out fraud.
Rupe also found fault with all of Browns petitions because they used three incorrect home addresses for her a violation of state election law. Rupe said using those Virginia Beach addresses, which Brown has said were her decisions, were sophomoric mistakes that are material in nature.

(58,785 posts)I initially assumed independent candidate Braun would be just another flake popping up out of the woodwork ("sophomoric mistakes," no kidding), but she's clearly also a product of the pervasive Republican corruption and betrayal of duty.
Imagine VA's Democratic Party files civil suits against the Republican and independent candidates, and anyone liable by association, for reimbursement of costs. Battling this must have been expensive.
And turning to decency in politics, Democratic candidate Elaine Luria is supported by Emily's List. With her background as a nuclear engineer, she must be having some interesting thoughts about all those nuclear facilities in Florence's path.
She retired from the U.S. Navy in 2017 with the rank of commander, and started a small business from her kitchen table that has grown to create jobs in her community and support local organizations for youth and the arts.
Elaine is a powerful advocate for Virginia military families. In 2017, she helped Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring launch the Military and Veterans Legal Guide, a new resource for military families and veterans who are often targets for fraud.

Sounds like a candidate we can feel good about.
