(6,978 posts)I needed a laugh very badly last night because I wanted to get away from thinking about tReasonous tRump's insanity growing WORSE, so I decided to watch Smokey and the Bandit last night.
RIP Burt ..... And thank you for ALL of the memories, and for sharing your acting craft with US all.

(5,914 posts)I never get tired of watching it.
I couldn't believe they "remade" that movie with (of all people) Adam Sandler. Burt Reynolds was not only a far better actor, but he had actually played college football for Florida State. He sells that movie based on his own experience as an athlete.
I am very sad about this passing. He was an actor who could do anything... action, comedy, serious and heavy drama. He was compelling in everything he did.
Godspeed Burt Reynolds.

(102,378 posts)Never exactly a Shakespearean actor, but always a fan favorite AND with his "shocking" nude centerfold for Cosmo, he did move along the "conversation" on female sexual equality.
RIP, Burt. I remember you even from those original Gunsmoke reruns!

(5,815 posts)The bargaining with god in the scene where he is trying to drown was hilarious.
Havent heard a lot from him in the last few years so I wonder if he has just been sick for some time. Or in poor health, in general.
He brought a lot of laughter to many so Rest In Peace, Burt.

(12,132 posts)but within the last few years he was at least doing voice work - He played himself on Archer for an episode. (one of their best as far as I'm concerned).
I just looked and he's been working steady since then too - just finished filming one movie, was in pre-production for another and been on a few TV shows.

(36,467 posts)Reynolds and Trump were among people with ownership stakes in the United States Football League, a one-time NFL competitor. Reynolds likes Trump, but suggested Trumps personal ambition helped sink the USFL. "I pray he never gets a chance to do to the USA what he did to the USFL," Reynolds said.

(4,723 posts)He was no thespian, but he was always in fun movies that would not have been appealing at all without him. He also had a cameo on The Golden Girls that just made the episode. You'll be missed, Mr Reynolds!

What a loss. He was such an iconic actor. He did leave quite a legacy behind but still...
R.I.P. and condolences to his family.

(401 posts)I was at Jupiter Medical Center this morning for a procedure ... around 10am the nurse and I were chatting and heard a Code Blue on the fourth floor followed by a cancel Code Blue ... I think I was there for Burt's passing.
I graduated from Palm Beach High School ... by then Twin Lakes high school.
I lost my V-chip to my then-girlfriend after seeing Burt's Shamus movie.
I think I'm getting old.

(5,914 posts)It wasn't a particularly memorable cop show, but he was a good performer in it.
There are a lot of TV shows and movies that are like that. They may inherently suck, but there will be an actor in them that makes them at least watchable and halfway interesting. Burt Reynolds was an actor who could do that.
Javaman
(62,534 posts)the show itself was so so, but he was great in it.
