As Florence looms, Trump says response was ‘incredibly successful’ last year in Puerto Rico, which saw nearly 3,000 excess deaths

By Washington Post Staff
September 11 at 4:03 PM

In remarks in the Oval Office, President Trump said his administration’s response to Hurricane Maria last year was “an incredible, unsung success” and also incorrectly suggested that Puerto Rico had virtually no electricity prior to the storm.

It was “one of the best jobs that’s ever been done with respect to what this is all about,” Trump said. He was speaking in response to questions from reporters after receiving a briefing on Hurricane Florence.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.

UPDATE:

-snip- (The info above)

With Hurricane Florence churning toward the Carolinas, President Trump declared Tuesday that the government is “absolutely, totally prepared” for a storm expected to bring destructive winds and catastrophic flooding

“We’re ready. FEMA is ready. Everybody is ready,” Trump said, referring to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

“We have everybody standing by. We hope for the best,” he said. “There’s a chance it could be a very bad one, as you’ve probably heard. .?.?. But we are absolutely, totally prepared.”

Trump made his brief comments at Joint Base Andrews as he returned to the Washington area after a trip to Pennsylvania, where he participated in a memorial service for those who perished on Flight 93 amid the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Trump was responding to a reporter’s question.

Up until that point, the president had said relatively little about the hurricane, even as it started to dominate news coverage.

It was different than Bush-Cheney administration that was greeting the New Orleans disaster as a grand opportunity to realign the vote by helping the Blacks to relocate a thousand of miles away. They worked closely with the insurance companies to provide data that their houses hadn't been affected by the hurricane but homeowners neglect. They just fell down by normal gust of 120 miles an hour.

Such an ass! But this storm will likely be handled better since the population is preponderantly white.

The storm response will be top notch, not because they care, but because they know their asses are on the line with midterms around the corner.

Fortunately there are many white people living in the region, and at least two Trump properties (a golf course and a hotel), so he might actually give a shit this time.

It's an old dictator rule. Putin employs it. Trump has used it for years. If something is bad press for you, say what you want the "truth" to be, and repeat it over and over. In time, people will believe it.

I met a man from PUerto Rico, drumpfs' FEMA refused to let him drive his 62 trucks into the mountains to bring food and water where there was zero. They only used trucks they brought and those were just a few and they didn't go deep in the mountains where the need was the greatest. They let tons of food waste rather than release the gas to him. No materials could be shipped to the island, they had to come here, be loaded on separate ships (big corp. ships), so they cost 2x what they should and hindered the reconstruction. Then, as a final murdering effort, they gave the contract to rebuild the electrical grid to Ryan Zinke's est friend & neighbor who had 7 ee and the company totally failed in it's efforts and still billed Puerto Rico millions for doing next to nothing. Everything they put up failed within a short time because their work was so slip shod and unprofessional. He didn't do this to FL or TX (because those states voted for him) but shit on PR for 2 reasons - they are Hispanic and they can't vote. If they could vote, it would be a different story. I'm just praying the 200,000 that came to FL vote Democrat. He's afraid of that and has removed their housing to try to drive them back to PR, the evil evil racist murderer.

About to lose the house and senate, and soon after that your life will return to non-stop investigations, just like before the erection. Your body is a flabby mess, your health is on the verge of collapse, and your family is circling you like vultures, wondering if they’ll inhert infinite debt or a few million devalued dollars. And nobody but the idiots you despise is fooled by you.
