Trump: 'Fake news media' didn't cover when Obama said '57 states' in 2008
Source: The Hill

President Trump fumed against the fake news media on Friday night when he resurfaced a blunder former President Obama made on the 2008 campaign trail.
When President Obama said that he has been to 57 States, very little mention in Fake News Media, Trump tweeted. Can you imagine if I said that...story of the year!
He then tagged Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham. Former President Obama has returned to the campaign trail in recent weeks to criticize Trump and his policies, which Ingraham discussed on her Friday night show.

Obamas blunder, which Ingraham also resurfaced on her show, came in Beaverton, O.R., in May 2008 when he was the leading contender for the Democratic Partys nomination, The Los Angeles Times reported at the time.

(3,254 posts)They also made a lot of noise about the "bitter clingers" remark. And let's not forget the scandal that was Arugulagate.
As usual, Trump is so full of shit that he squeaks going into a turn. The media loves to cover gaffes from politicians. 45 is just pissy because he's a gaffe machine.

(3,254 posts)The tan suit jogged my memory, for some reason. Remember when he saluted that Marine while holding a cup of coffee? Remember the breathless hysterics from the right, aided and abetted by the mainstream media yammering on about it for days? Ah, the good old days.

(3,254 posts)We had them for eight years, and now we've sunk to having an idiot reality TV "star" sitting in that very office, befouling it.
I really miss the class, dignity, compassion, and decency that was Barack Obama's administration. He's a better man than 45 could ever hope to be. And that, of course, is why 45 hates him so much.

(3,275 posts)Republican made a big deal out of it when it happened. Years later they still brought it up since they didn't have anything else. Now, over a decade later it is coming up again. Obama is such a eloquent, classy and intelligent gentleman. They have to grasp at anything they can find to try to make him look bad. Look how much people complained about his tan suit. Trump is also wrong that he would get a lot of attention if he had said that. It would just be another thing in the gigantic never ending list of things wrong with Trump. It would be overshadowed by his next thing which would happen the next day.
Yes, republicans we all know that there are 50 states, 5 territories and DC. Seriously, get over it already and have a cup of covfefe.

(16,938 posts)you are probably wrong.
"It would be overshadowed by his next thing which would happen the next day."
I really do not think it would take THAT long for him to make another gaffe - not when he's averaging 8 lies per day!

Presumably Trump was there to witness the horror of Obamas slip up? - if it wasn't reported in the media

(13,110 posts)I saw it.
I saw it numerous times.
The Teabaggers never missed a chance to bring it up.
You can keep your health care and 57 states are the 2 things that were brought
up repeatedly.
I guess you were too busy laundering Russian money to notice.
Also, fuck you and your cult !!!!

SamKnause
(13,110 posts)It was in the repubs campaign ads.
They brought it up every time they were interviewed on TV.
Freethinker65
(10,055 posts)The 57 "States" was a misspeak and the "keep your own doctor" would have been possible if all Doctors were providers in the plans. The point was the plans were still managed by insurance companies and NOT the government, so the government was not choosing your doctor for you (kind of like being able to discuss end of life issues with medical professionals were NEVER death panels).
Kind of amusing that Obama's popularity is still messing with Trump's head. Obviously Trump knows he is inadequate and thinks by tearing Obama down it elevates Trump. Immature way to deal with jealousy.
watoos
(7,142 posts)so Trump has to try to tear him down.

(523 posts)I remember parsing out Obama's alleged reference to 57 states at the time; it was actually derived from a rather disjointed off-the-cuff sentence.
And it's nothing compared to Trump's total amnesia over the fact that Puerto Rico is a US commonwealth, whose inhabitants are US citizens entitled to vote for President.

(And his major at Columbia was political science...) They were always threatened by his (and both Clintons') level of intelligence and competence, so in typical Republican fashion, project their own ignorance onto him. It's so thrilling for them to have a *president who is as dumb, incompetent, hateful, lazy and bigoted as they are! USA!! USA!!

And 2. He admitted to it when it was pointed that he had made a mistake. You should try it sometime.

(11,238 posts)wasn't right, but then continued on to make the point he was actually making. It was a flub, whatever it was he was thinking of. I've done that, said a name or a word that wasn't what I meant, or was thinking, and when someone corrected me I had no memory of having said the wrong word.
It was such a stupid thing to make a fuss of. Like when people jumped on him for misnaming the concentration camp his grandfather helped liberate in WWII. Just goes to show you what the motives are for people needing to make a person wrong. They don't care how petty or minor the thing is.

al 50 states, DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Americans abroad and the Panama Canal Zone.
That's what Obama was referring to. Does anyone think that Obama, a Harvard graduate didn't know there are 50 states?
