UPDATE:
Sen. Jeff Flake, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said in an interview Sunday evening that until he learns more about the sexual assault allegation regarding Brett Kavanaugh, he is not comfortable voting yes on Kavanaughs nomination to the Supreme Court at a scheduled Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday.
The Arizona senator is one of 11 Republicans on the narrowly divided panel, and without his support, the nomination cannot move forward given Democratic opposition. We need to hear from her. And I dont think Im alone in this, Flake told POLITICO.

Senate Republicans are confronting a daunting question now that Brett Kavanaugh's accuser has gone public: Should his Supreme Court nomination continue barreling forward amid a sexual assault allegation?
Just hours after Republican senators brushed off the allegations as anonymous and too late to stop Kavanaugh's ascendance to the court, the Washington Post published an account from Christine Blasey Ford that Kavanaugh groped her, tried to pull off her clothes and covered her mouth when she tried to scream at a party in Maryland more than three decades ago. Afterward, Kavanaugh supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said that Ford should be heard out, though he did not call for the process to slow down.

And for that reason he is anathema to the party of Trump, now and in 2020 as well. Yes, he falls in line most of the time, but if he wants to go out in a meaningful way with a legacy to match the verbiage, he might wish to follow the lead of his state's recently departed senior senator (re: repeal of ACA vote) and put conscience above party.

(43,173 posts)Republicans could have it both ways - appear to be deliberating from now until Election Day, then ram it through. They get a benefit both ways there.
If they ram it through now, it will hurt them on Election Day, make no mistake about it.
So I'm not understand the rush, nor why they are misplaying this to only get half of what they want. Suspicious.

Please call...This is what our country must do or face 30 YEARS of GOP control of our rights. Immigrants, women, those with the ACA and pre existing conditions, impeachment process, etc. are all in jeopardy.
RESISTANCE WORKS! Call everyday all week. Thanks!

(13,871 posts)Dont put the emphasis on Collins and Murkowski. I think Flake and Corker are the most likely ones to intervene.
We either need two GOP abstentions or one No vote to keep Pence from breaking the tie.
