FEMA postpones scheduled Presidential Alert test due to Hurricane Florence

Source: ABC Houston

FEMA'S Presidential push alert that was scheduled for this week will be pushed back.

Over the weekend, FEMA had announced they would be sending out an alert meant to warn Americans in the event of a national emergency. The alert would be like an AMBER alert.

On Monday, FEMA tweeted that the alert test would be moved due to severe weather across the east coast and the ongoing rescue.

Why does the President specifically need a universal "reply all" button?

I'm not saying it's a bad idea for a national alert service, I'm just saying why is it a "Presidential Alert System" and not a National Emergency system - usable by "the government".

If TRMP starts blowin' up my phone, all "NO COLLUSION!!!" I swear...

I wonder if this was born out of RedDon wanting a way to issue edicts somewhere besides Twitter where the public can't respond to him.

Do you really want someone below the level of president having final authority to send out a national alert message without the president's concurrence?

And it was "born" out of legislation passed without a dissenting vote by the House and Senate and signed into law by President Obama in April 2016, with a requirement that the national mobile alert system be tested within 3 years of the law's enactment.
