Opposition to Kavanaugh grows, support at historic low: Reuters/Ipsos poll

(Reuters) - A growing number of Americans said they opposed President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, as the candidate’s confirmation hearings took place and as he fended off a sexual assault claim, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed.

The Sept. 11-17 poll found that 36 percent of adults surveyed did not want Kavanaugh in the Supreme Court, up 6 points from a similar poll conducted a month earlier.

Only 31 percent of U.S. adults polled said they were in favor of Kavanaugh’s appointment.

If support for his nomination remains this weak, Trump’s pick would rank among the lowest-supported Supreme Court nominees to later be confirmed, according to historical data from Gallup.

Meaning Kavanaugh is getting basically zero support from Democrats, Independents and Republicans who don't support Trump.

Ramming an overwhelmingly unpopular judge into the Supreme Court a month before midterms is not a winning strategy.

The prevailing sentiment in the here and now appears to be setting roadblocks, delays and obstacles to that confirmation.

I don't think I've seen or read any opinion expressed that his low popularity ratings will be a major factor *after* the potential confirmation.

take weeks. That is too damn bad for the cons and the Democrats should take every advantage they can drum up to keep a vote from taking place before November elections.

Did you hear them with their no investigation bullshit excuse? They're afraid, so is Kavanaughs buddy, that is why he will not speak under oath about it.

he testifies to that in court? Or, if he denies the story and was found to have lied under oath, wouldn't that be a problem for him, as well? No wonder he doesn't want to be questioned.

What this speaks to is exposing liars, exposing abuse, all which points to Kavanaugh being unfit to serve.
But you are correct about the perjury charge, that would be a big deal and it is exactly why I believe he will not speak under oath.

The reaction and action from Republicans was predictable. I predict that their failure to give the accuser a fighting chance at proving her allegations will go down as one of the reasons women sent the GOP packing in 2018 and 2020.

As for Flake, you can forget about any future political aspirations in Arizona or a run at President. Women control the money, we've had enough giving you the "benefit of doubt". Put up or shut up, otherwise, you go on my "shit for brains" list, along with Sessions and rumpie.

Before he removes his name from the nomination it'll only help the Democrats more likely retake control of both the House AND the Senate. Let them keep postponing what will happen anyway with all his baggage that'll be coming. Its helping Democrats, and hurting themselves.
