Walmart reportedly warns Trump's trade war will hit regular Americans hard

Trump's trade war, saying it is "very concerned" about the possible impacts the newly announced tariffs will have on American consumers.
In a letter to US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, the company which employs 2.3 million people worldwide, and 1.5 million in the US alone said the immediate impact of the fresh tariffs "will be to raise prices on consumers and tax American business and manufacturers," according to a report from CNN Money.
"As the largest retailer in the United States and a major buyer of U.S. manufactured goods, we are very concerned about the impacts these tariffs would have on our business, our customers, our suppliers and the U.S. economy as a whole," Walmart wrote, according to a separate report from Reuters.
CNN Money reports that in its letter sent around two weeks ago Walmart asked Lighthizer and the Trump administration to reconsider putting tariffs on Chinese-made consumer goods including: Christmas lights, shampoo, dog food, luggage, mattresses, handbags, backpacks, vacuum cleaners, bicycles, cooking grills, cable cords, and air conditioners.

Im not seeing Moores movie, either. Folks like him are responsible for the vote suppression. Self-serving grifters.

(50,566 posts)Not sure why Russia needs Cummins heavy engines; the ones they made on their own work fine. It might have made it easier to achieve Euro 4 compliance, but they would have gotten there on their own.

(31,125 posts)I assume that is an accepted fact.

(3,077 posts)... they have already been, "given", the technology. Hard to enforce patents and IP across borders.
"Even if Cummins pulled its license, Russia would be okay".
""Two years ago we began selling a six-ton truck to the Russianmarket, and a Cummins engine was at the heart of our great successwith this product," said Sergey Kogogin, General Director of KAMAZ."Cummins understands the potential of the Russian market and theopportunities that exist with KAMAZ."

Also mentioned in the article is EuroII and EuroIII compliance of the Cummins engines was needed.

(3,077 posts)..."You can find Cummins K19 series engines powering everything from tractors and ferries to mining equipment. In China, the K19 is manufactured by a Sino-American joint venture called Chongqing Cummins. The 30-year-old design is widely available. And its a terrific brute of an engine, a six-cylinder displacing 19 liters and making impressive power. Perfect for Chinas ever growing industrial sector. Or surreptitiously hauling Kim Jong-uns nuclear arsenal."

(2,172 posts)90%+ of our seasonal aisles (Halloween, Christmas, etc) is made in China. This stuff is manufactured and shipped ahead of time, so I we'll see much of a price on that junk until Easter or so... That's not even counting clothes, appliances, etc.
As a side note, a lot is made by a company called "Woman Owned"... I guess they are trying to snag sales from progressive types that want to support female entrepreneurs, though I doubt the Chinese company is really owned by a woman...

(45,547 posts)They do have some goods made in USA. They also have goods assembled in USA from parts made in China.
BumRushDaShow
(129,610 posts)but most of what you find in the stores is "Made in China" (or Vietnam or Malaysia or the Philippines) and their misleading statement seemed to suggest that most of their stuff was USA-made and it certainly isn't.
And this portion of their statement - "and tax American business" is a veiled reference to themselves having to pay the tariffs ("tax" on ALL THAT STUFF they import.
