WASHINGTON (AP) Please, Mr. President, just wait.
Donald Trumps advisers have been sounding that nervous refrain in the lead-up to the midterm elections, hoping the president will hold off on a series of actions hes been itching to take, but that could hinder Republicans on Nov. 6.
Trump has made clear he would shut down the government if necessary to win money for his long-sought wall on the Mexican border. Hes talked about getting rid of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein or Attorney General Jeff Sessions. For months, theres been speculation hell make a move against special counsel Robert Mueller.
But with 35 days to go before midterm elections that look increasingly challenging for Republicans, Trump allies are trying to hold back the presidents impulses just a little bit longer, hoping to contain his ire until Election Day.

Evidence of this is out there every day. Hitch your wagon to the orange pustule and you will go down.

(1,660 posts)That way, when that...THING in the White House decides to force a government shutdown over his wall, the GOP can just blame it on Democrats and try to regain power in '20 or '22. Not necessarily a rebuild, but a reload.
But one has to wonder if those crazy ducks realize they can fly...

(9,696 posts)I think this is just the WH pretending that no matter what anyone says, trumpft does what he wants. When in reality, repubs are supportive of any and all of trumpfts moves.
They really don't care.
