Sen. Collins' vote on Kavanaugh triggers calls to boycott Maine

Source: Portland Press Herald

People upset with Sen. Susan Collins’ support for now-Justice Brent Kavanaugh are calling for a boycott of Maine products and tourism.

“Dear Susan Collins – I really struggled with this but my tourist $ just voted against ever visiting Maine while you remain in office,” actor and comedian John Fugelsang tweeted out to his 413,000 followers – a megaphone in the shouts and murmurs of the Twitterverse.

Since his tweet posted Friday, it’s been liked 22,000 times and retweeted another 5,000. Fugelsang, who had movie roles in “The Girl on the Train” and “Coyote Ugly,” hosts a daily call-in show on SiriusXM satellite radio called “Tell Me Everything.”

Hundreds of people said in the comments they were behind the boycott, including one person who canceled a $2,200 reservation at Point Sebago resort and a Texas chef with multiple restaurants who vowed to boycott all Maine seafood. Others discussed shifting their travel plans to New Hampshire or Vermont.

an email to their State Tourism Bureau and perhaps the Chamber of Commerce of wherever it was that you intend to visit. If you are on Facebook I would suggest posting on their pages letting them know that you will not be visiting there or spending money. Businesses and organizations such as these watch those pages like hawks in an attempt to keep everything nice and pretty in the social media world.

Mostly your responses will be from the organizations that they do not interfere in politics and take no sides, but you will have sent your message and that is what the goal is as I understand.

Comes down to someone made a decision to do X and you made a decision as well, no hard feelings, strictly business.

...let's give people space and room to protest in their own way. This SCOTUS selection hurts, and I know quite a few people who were triggered from the element of the discussions.

Perhaps, you can offer you own response to the situation as opposed to shooting down the ideas of others.

While it might be a moot point for Kavanaugh, but boycotts and threatened boycotts do cause change sometimes.

I used to spend plenty of time and cash in Wisconsin. The only reason I've been there in the last 4 years was to attend my Uncle's funeral. I'll return when my Aunt passes away, and then that's it. No more money from me until Wisconsin pulls it's head out of it's ass.

The only weapon we have against the wealthy is boycott, and don't think for a minute that the GOP isn't all about rich vs. poor. There are even Dems on the other side of that fence.

I had to travel to S. Carolina many times on business years ago and now I can see why they have Lindsay Graham. I believe they are also one of the poorest states.

They really aren't "into" education much plus they don't want to pay enough taxes to have better schools.

Now that we understand exactly how foreign "active measures" work, we should be suspicious of any self-harming sideshow such as this.

However you feel about the potential effectiveness of this proposed boycott, the real issue is its opportunity cost. Every ounce of energy and thought spent on anything other than the task of changing the makeup of the power-centers in 29 days, comes at a price. Boycotting Maine should be judged by its potential return, as compared to the potential return of using those resources to change the makeup of Congress.

Because the average IQ on this board is such that this information is not exactly news to anyone, the only other option I can think of is that this is a tactical distraction by a hostile actor.

Its like a seagull just stole our only fish, leaving us to starve. But instead of going to class to learn how to catch more fish, we are using our last precious moments to try to catch and punish the seagull.

And all those like her who went after candidates like Al Gore, "no difference between Bush and Gore" and Hillary Clinton "Clinton was worse than Trump"

She spewed so many untruths about both of them. She wanted to use her fame to get attention for her screwed up beliefs, and she did, she wasn't shy about it. She went on one talk show after another. She got all the free publicity she craved.

The "revolution" she preached about, has given us an incompetent, vicious, bigoted, hateful ogre
like Trump and two lifetime appointments of conservative judges, to the Supreme Court, that can't be undone. There is also a real possibility Roe could be overturned.

Sure didn't turn out like she planned....or maybe it did.

and both of them proclaiming the "innocence" of Bart O' Kavanaugh. I would participate in a boycott, and if there isn't, personally, I will not spend any money in or anything coming out of Maine. Their governor Paul LePage, is another piece of work.
