Republicans are touting the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh as rocket fuel for the GOP grass roots in next months midterm elections, but its Democrats who appear more energized by the nomination fight, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll.
Kavanaughs confirmation is not popular: In the poll, which was conducted entirely after last weeks Senate vote, 46 percent of voters said the Senate "made the wrong decision" in approving the controversial judge, while 40 percent said it was right to elevate him to the high court. And following the GOP-led effort to push through his nomination, enthusiasm among Democratic voters has surged. More than 3 in 4 Democrats (77 percent) say they are very motivated to turn out and vote in the midterms more than the 68 percent of Republicans who say theyre very motivated.
Prior to Kavanaughs confirmation, some polls had showed an uptick in GOP interest in this years elections. And its possible the fight over his nomination may have more positive effects for Republicans in key red states in the battle for control of the Senate like Indiana, Missouri, Montana and North Dakota than nationally, where Kavanaugh is less popular.
But the POLITICO/Morning Consult poll suggests that Republicans decision to confirm Kavanaugh lacks broad support and has animated Democrats with only four weeks to go until President Donald Trumps first midterm election.

Our Indivisible group held its bimonthly Postcard Party at a new location - a different local bar n grill last Sunday. We had three tables set up together in the middle of the main room. Man! People kept coming. All of a sudden it was clear some of these folks were brand new. We had to move another table over to our set-up, and then a SECOND table as well. And there was another couple who grabbed a booth next to us and, while they ate, they too were working on postcards!
Ive been to lots of these since we moved and I joined this new Indivisible group after we moved. Ive never seen such interest. One woman who has been to these before also has been volunteering at the local Democratic Party office. She said it had been dead there for awhile. Shed go and then sit all day. Not much activity, phones not ringing much, pretty ho-hum. Until Saturday. She said it was a madhouse in there on Saturday, with all the new activity! Shed promoted the next days Postcard Party to all those people and sure enough, a bunch of em showed up to get active!
Felt SO GOOD! The folks I chatted with sure were turned on. They were either already fairly knowledgeable or definitely waking up and receptive as all-get-out.

(2,596 posts)What the fuck is it going to take to get the entire population of self-proclaimed Democrats to be 100% more enthusiastic and motivated to fucking get off their damned asses and get to the polls to vote the retrumplican motherfuckers out of office?
Do you think they might be more motivated to vote these cretins out of office if they found out that every minority is either going to be rounded up and put into a work camp (for their masters) or put into box cars and shipped off permanently to God knows where?

(65,057 posts)Rape-anaugh support increased enthusiasm among R voters?? Really?!?!?
They were going to vote, and were going to vote "R" anyway. That was just BS.
Since D's are not in power, enthusiasm to vote and vote D is far more impactful than last week's non-news.
Getting people out to vote is the magic bullet for dems. The turnout among R's will NOT be statistically significantly more than it would have been otherwise.
