Michael Bloomberg Registers As Democrat As He Mulls 2020 Presidential Bid
The former New York mayor and billionaire media mogul has suggested he may challenge President Donald Trump in 2020.

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Wednesday that he has changed his voter registration to Democrat, suggesting he is inching closer to announcing a presidential run in 2020.

“At key points in U.S. history, one of the two parties has served as a bulwark against those who threaten our Constitution,” Bloomberg wrote. “Two years ago at the Democratic Convention, I warned of those threats.

“Today, I have re-registered as a Democrat – I had been a member for most of my life – because we need Democrats to provide the checks and balance our nation so badly needs,” he added.

The media mogul reportedly planned to spend $80 million of his personal fortune on the 2018 midterm elections to help Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives. He also has contributed heavily to environmental and gun-control initiatives.

5. The Trump cult would attack him for the small, weird things he tried to do.

The soda ban, having to use smaller cups, things like that.

Bloomberg, OTOH, would go after Trump's business dealings and income taxes and using the office as a cash machine for himself.

I'd vote for Bloomberg. A real businessman instead of a fake one. Maybe some independents, who like businessmen to be in charge of the economy, would go for it, too.

But I don't follow NY politics closely. I don't know what kind of politician he is, really. He did win NY, though, which is a liberal state.

Christine Quinn's support of that move arguably cost her her own shot at the job.

3. Interesting. I don't think passion for him would outdo the Trump cult followers, but who knows.

Could he withstand the extreme aggression from Trump and his cult?

Real businessman vs fake businessman.
Ethical person vs. unethical person.

I'd vote for him.

Of course I’d vote for a cockroach over Trump lol. I need to hear more from Bloomberg before I give my support in the primary.

I know he’s good on the gay rights, choice, the environment and gun control, which is awesome. Where does he stand on healthcare and labor issues? Time for me to do some research to see if I might support him in 2020.

Sheeeeee-it, man, I sure as hell hope not. This is not exactly the kind of precedent we want to be setting, is it?

15. Way to inflame the Repub vote

Bloomberg's anti-Second Amendment history would get out the Repub vote like no other candidate.

I see him as exactly the wrong direction for the Democratic Party to take. Why would we turn our backs on issues of inequality and economic justice by running a candidate like him? What can he possibly offer? I see him alienating all of the South and most of the Midwest and non-coastal Western states. Meanwhile, where would the enthusiasm arise for him?

This whole thing with old white guys in their mid-to-late 70s being treated as viable presidential candidates is the weirdest thing I've ever seen.
