Pope compares abortion to hiring a hit man to solve problems
Source: NBC News
VATICAN CITY Pope Francis compared abortion to a mafia-style killing Wednesday, saying it's the equivalent of hiring a hit man to "take out a human life to solve a problem."
Francis made the comments, among his strongest yet against abortion, during his weekly Wednesday audience dedicated to the commandment exhorting the faithful not to kill.
Francis said some people justify abortion as respecting other rights. But, he asked, "How can an act that suppresses innocent and defenseless life as it blossoms be therapeutic, civil or simply human?"
He asked if it was fair "to take out a human life" to solve a problem: "Is it fair to hire a hit man to solve a problem? It is not fair. We cannot take out a human being, even if it is small."

(8,200 posts)Why the hell should any man be in control of a function that they are unable to experience. When he can have a kid, he can decide for himself. Since that isn't going to happen any time soon, then shut up. As for women, if you are against abortion, then don't have one. Now I might be rightly interested if the government was forcing a women to have an abortion or forcing her to become pregnant against her will.

It is ok for his priests to abuse kids. But a womans right to choose is sin. Religion nothing but a way to control the weak minded.

(25,858 posts)If, and only if, all methods of birth control including the morning after pill were available to all women, then, and only then might an anti-abortion stance be reasonable.
Something else that all the anti-abortion people don't understand is that some surprisingly large number of conceptions that don't lead to a live birth is possibly as high as 50%.
There is such a fundamental misunderstanding of the entire process out there that it's quite discouraging.
As I like to point out, If you don't believe in abortion then don't have one.

(51,559 posts)Women who have abortions are not criminals. The fetus is part of their body and women have the right to control their own body, NOT YOU.
Women have abortions because it is in the best interest of them and their families. Most women who have abortions already have kids. That is who they are doing it for, to protect those kids' quality of life from being hurt by having another mouth to feed.

Teach and make available REALISTIC ways to prevent pregnancy.
Seems like a no-brainer.

(15,540 posts)I think statistics have proven that the vast majority of Catholic women use birth control, so one can only hope that what the pope says re: women's bodies will be ignored just like their birth control edict.
And they wonder why the Catholic church is struggling. Their silly ass rules and the whole pedophile scandal will hopefully take them into the dustbin of history. Eventually they'll probably come up with Vatican III and change the rules when they are desperate. Isn't that what happened in the '70's?

A: They made it up.
Q: How did the Pope get to be a moral authority?
A: Remember that commercial where the guy says "I'm not a doctor but I play one on TV"? That's the Pope, pretty much.

(3,813 posts)As long as Catholocism embraces the concept of "Just War," I don't want to hear aabout "innocent and defenseless life."
And after that? It's still a matter for a woman and her doctor up through a certain (much debated) stage of pregnancy. Roe' precepts of no state interference within the first trimester, limited state interference within the second trimester, and more of a role for the state by the third trimester is pretty reasonable...
