FBI director defends 'limited' Kavanaugh background probe

Source: The Washington Post

By Devlin Barrett and Karoun Demirjian October 10 at 10:43 AM

FBI Director Christopher A. Wray defended his agents’ handling of a background investigation into Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, saying that it was “limited in scope” and followed standard procedures.

Wray was pressed at a Senate hearing by Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) about how much direction FBI agents received from the White House when they conducted a supplemental background investigation into claims by a California professor that Kavanaugh attempted to sexually assault her when the two were teenagers.

Harris pressed the director to explain why FBI agents never interviewed the woman, Christine Blasey Ford, or Kavanaugh, about her accusations.

Wray replied: “As is standard, the investigation was very specific in scope, limited in scope, and that is the usual process and that my folks have assured me that the usual process was followed,” Wray said.

3. It's usual process to ignore witnesses and victims don't get interviews?

These kinds of remarks don't help the FBI's reputation if ignoring victim testimony, and that of potential corroborating witness testimony are part of "the usual" process of an FBI background investigation if those interviews could possibly reveal things or create an outcome not desired by the GOP

So now we see more politicizing of institutions like our courts and our justice department that are supposed to be above the fray of politics

Starting with the rogue New York office agents and Comey tilting the election to trump and now this sham investigation, the FBI's rep is in the toilet.

Who can trust them for anything now?

What does that mean, a process that is dictated to the FBI by a sitting president when there are no criminal charges involved or what?

13. Maybe FBI keeping Trump off its back?

I'm thinking maybe the FBI is appeasing Trump now because of Mueller. What's been bugging me since Justice Kennedy suddenly retired in June with the promise that Trump nominate Kavanaugh (Kennedy's former law clerk). And the connection of Kennedy's son working for Deutche Bank loaning Trump a billion dollars.

Isn't Mueller investigating Deutche bank? Maybe the Kennedy father & son and Kav are colluding with Trump??? Perhaps Mueller has them in his sites?

Is this wishful thinking?

Wray defending the FBI's "show" only investigation as standard FBI procedure is playing right into Trump's machinations to
trash FBI credibility. Wray should have said the truth, that the WH strongly limited the time and scope of their Kavanaugh investigation.
