BELLAIRE, Ohio (WTRF) - Timothy Loehmann, the former Cleveland police officer who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice, has withdrawn his application to the Bellaire Police Department, according to Chief Dick Flanagan.

Many residents expressed concern after the hire was announced by Chief Flanagan.

In the hiring process, Chief Flanagan says that Loehmann was up front about his past from the moment he came in to apply for the job, and he believes that people can change from year to year.

"I don't thumb my nose at anybody. I have black relatives," said Chief Flanagan. "It's just unfortunate that a young person lost their life. I know how that feels. I feel for that family, but at some point, you have to pick yourself up and go on."

Don't let them get away with calling Tamir Rice a "young person." I will never forget Tamir Rice! I don't know how many thousands of hours my brothers and my son spent playing with toy guns at his age! That footage showed how the policeman jumped out of the car and shot him. Clearly a child! The FBI agent who ran over to give aid to Tamir could see that he was a child, and that the cops were not doing right by him!

Sounds like a great guy

"The police chief of Bellaire, Ohio, has been reprimanded for cursing out a civilian. He’s been accused of kicking in doors to enforce imaginary property codes. And he’s been the target of an online petition calling for his resignation over “bullying” behavior."

"And now the village’s top cop, Richard “Dick” Flanagan, is under fire again–this time for the mind-boggling decision to hire the officer who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice four years ago and who was then fired from the Cleveland police force for failing to disclose that his previous employer found him unfit for service."
