President Trump strongly criticized Saudi Arabias explanation for the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi late Saturday, saying that obviously theres been deception, and theres been lies.
At the same time, Trump defended the oil-rich monarchy as an incredible ally and kept open the possibility that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman did not order Saudi agents to kill Khashoggi.
Nobody has told me hes responsible. Nobody has told me hes not responsible. We havent reached that point .?.?. I would love if he wasnt responsible, Trump said in a phone interview with The Washington Post.
The kingdoms claim that Khashoggi was killed after a fistfight escalated inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul was met with a torrent of international skepticism Saturday over how a team of Saudi agents could fly to Istanbul to meet Khashoggi and eventually kill him without the knowledge or consent of the crown prince, the de facto leader.

In Post interview, Trump calls Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed a strong person who truly loves his country

President Trump retreated late Saturday from his stance that Saudi Arabias story about the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside their Turkish consulate was credible but still gave a strong vote of confidence to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, arguing the United States relationship with the kingdom is key to his administrations policy objectives in the Middle East.
Obviously theres been deception and theres been lies, Trump said in an interview with The Washington Post when pressed on the many discrepancies in the changing accounts from the Saudis. Their stories are all over the place.
He did not call for the ouster of Mohammed and instead praised his leadership, calling the prince a strong person, he has very good control.
During the 20-minute interview, Trump repeatedly talked about the importance of the economic ties between the United States and Saudi Arabia and Mohammeds role in that relationship.
Hes seen as a person who can keep things under check, he said. I mean that in a positive way.

(9,426 posts)talking about himself. "There has been deception, there has been lies" Yes, and we are tired of it all, tRumpy. Just because the prince can "keep things under check" by slaughtering them does not make him a decent person. Cut the $$$$ ties, and start doing the job you had stolen for you.

(7,142 posts)there is one thing I would trust Trump about, and that is his understanding of deception. I think he would be the most qualified person to call out deception when he sees it. Who better than Don the Con?

(314 posts)I wish his grammar errors would be pointed out more. "Obviously theres been deception, and theres (sic) been lies. Should be "there have been lies." I know there are more important things to worry about, but this grammar is driving me nuts.
