Democrats outpacing Republicans in early absentee voting in Maine
Source: Portland Press Herald
AUGUSTA Democrats are again outpacing Republicans in requesting and filing absentee ballots for the Nov. 6 election in Maine. But election officials and experts who study early voting said that doesnt necessarily give them an edge on Election Day.
The Secretary of States Office reported Monday that 19,470 Democrats have voted in Maine compared with 12,965 Republicans and 10,708 unenrolled voters. With two weeks to go until Election Day, the state was well ahead of the early voting pace in 2014, the last year when a governors race was at the top of the ballot.
As of Monday, about 6 percent of all registered Democrats had voted, compared with 4.6 percent of Republicans and 2.6 percent of unenrolled voters.
Democrats have traditionally outpaced Republicans in early voting in Maine, but Democrats also have a larger number of registered voters 340,122 compared with 281,754 Republicans. Unenrolled voters comprise the largest single voting block at 358,734, making up close to 35 percent of the states total of 1,028,602 registered voters. The Green Independent Party and Libertarian Party recorded 42,438 and 5,554 voters, respectively.

(22,133 posts)Vote the traitorous republicans out of office and save our ACA, preserve our liberties, keep our federal debt from going sky high by repealing the Feb. 2018 tax cuts and jobs act. Put a check on rump's dictatorial tendencies and anti-American rhetoric and end his love affair w/ Nazi and white nationalist thugs.

(11,885 posts)Are liars , and telling people they want pre existing conditions covered when they voted against them all along and lying to the people . trump and the gop want all health care destroyed along with Social Security, and will make whats left of it useless. Like they are trying now to do to the ACA, which trump bragged about destroying for people. Their tax scam rewarding their wealthy donors after getting campaign funding from them , or bribes to get their tax cuts or else they'd stop funding their campaigns again. They're crooks and people are finding that out now, along with their taxes going up from trumps tax scam bill for the wealthy, they're liars who'll say anything including many , many lies to them.

(7,218 posts)There are FOUR candidates for Maine Governor, and only ONE of them is a Democrat! Maine may find itself in the same bucket of warm spit it has been in since 2010: A Republican Governor who has never had a 50.1% of the vote, and is hated by the majority that didn't vote for him.
'Yer doing it again, Maine!

(6,496 posts)Mainers voted for Ranked Choice Voting twice now. We do have it for the us senate and us rep races, but can't use it for governor because the Maine constitution needs to be modified to do that. The republicans and LePage wouldn't do it because they like the system stacked in their favor. Not going to give Mainers what we ask for. We will persist and get what we want eventually. We can at least do it for some races. I wish people would stop dissing on Mainers because we have been actively trying to change things and I haven't seen any other state implement those kind of changes yet.
