Source: CNBC.COM
Tesla shares soared by more than 10 percent in afterhours trading after the company posted a surprise third-quarter profit that beat Wall Street expectations.
Here's how the company did compared with what Wall Street expected, based on average estimates of analysts polled by Refinitiv:
Adjusted earnings: $2.90 a share vs. an expected loss of 19 cents per share
Revenue: $6.82 billion vs. an expected $6.33 billion
The company earned $516 million during the quarter, that was otherwise a tumultuous one for the electric car maker.

(638 posts)I was really scared after Musk made that proclamation that he was taking the company private and when there was a federal investigation on Tesla. I told my parents to sell because it was kind of sounding like horror stories from the business classes that I took. Now it seems like it was a good decision my parents didn't sell.
Hopefully they stay alive and well and people buy electric cars for the climate and the cost savings from switching from gas. I bought an electric car 2 and a half years ago and I haven't regretted it for one second.

(638 posts)They don't work with my chevy volt or any other electric car outside of teslas. That's great and I'm all for it but it does tick me off. Trying to get an apartment complex or a gas station or something that has the chargers to use is rather difficult. But I digress. Great for tesla and hopefully electric cars keep getting more visibility and use by the general public.

(15,740 posts)I also believe Volkswagen is now currently building charging stations nationwide as part of their settlement with the government over the diesel scandal. I think they will be car agnostic, so long as you have a proper adapter.
Building a nationwide Tesla supercharging network was a brilliant strategy. I just drove from California to Florida and back over the summer with no problems.

I was a little disappointed to see that Consumer Reports had soured on their cars some. There was a time when Consumer Reports thought they could drive on water.

It seems that all that cool tech can have some glitches. I would still take one in a heartbeat.

I generally root for Elon Musk and for a lot of Elon Musk's ideas. I cannot deny his brilliance. I cannot deny his success.
He has had some idiotic moments, to be sure. But definitely more of a hero than not.
