Trump: Migrant caravan 'is an invasion'

Source: The Hill

President Trump on Monday called a caravan of Central American migrants heading toward the U.S.-Mexico border an "invasion" and pledged to use the military to stop people from entering the U.S.

"This is an invasion of our Country and our Military is waiting for you!" the president tweeted.

Trump offered no evidence while claiming there are "Many Gang Members and some very bad people" traveling in the caravan.

...

They also point out that the suspects in last week's mail-bomb scare and the mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue echoed some of that rhetoric. The alleged Pittsburgh gunman, Robert Bowers, denounced the "third-world caravan" as a group of "invaders" in a social media post.

Bowers blamed Jews for helping 'invaders' in the migrant caravans

Robert Bowers’ anti-Semitism fueled other hate speech that he published and shared on Gab.com

Bowers made anti-Semitic comments alongside xenophobic content, claiming that Jews were helping transport members of the migrant caravans in Latin America. He shared a video that another Gab.com user posted, purportedly of HIAS, a Jewish refugee support group, on the US-Mexico border.

In another post, Bowers described HIAS' overall efforts as, "sugar-coated evil."

He believed that those in the migrant caravans were violent because they were attempting to leave countries that had high levels of violence. And Bowers repeatedly called them “invaders.”

I'd love to see the 400 people that want war try to arrest the 400,000 that want to give the president the finger.

a ragtag group of poor and hungry people desperately seeking help as a threat to his weekly golden, gourmet, luxury, taxpayer-funded golf goof offs. Republican "values" suck cesspool scum, as everyone says.

It's tuff to be a republican coward afraid of poor, unarmed, hungry people who seek a sliver of Christian kindness. Too bad republicans are in control, for as Fake Christians they will ensure that those in need get none of what Christ said was so essential.

Even after knowing that describing the immigrants as invaders was the trigger that set off Robert Bowers resulting in the murder of eleven people, Trump continues to use the term and Fox News Channel continues to cover the caravan breathlessly and hourly.

Even after knowing this, they double down with OUR lives!

They were perhaps unwitting accomplices to murder, now with full awareness they continue their ethically criminal activity. The next time they will be witting accomplices to murder.

What I'd like to see, is some network, with a conscience, do a multipart documentary. Go down there, travel with them. Record stories of the horrors they have gone through, and the horrors they are escaping. Make the story personal. All they are now is is faceless growing mob of people marching towards the border. That meme will be used by Trump and the Repukes to win seats unless some news organization helps to humanize them, show them who they really are.

13. I know some of the people in the migration

I have lived and taught in Honduras since 2008. I know some of the people in that caravan. Four of our primary students left with their parents and other family members a number of weeks ago as well as other people in the community I have met. Honduran people are warm, generous, caring people and desperately poor. That the president of the U.S. is lying about these people who are seeking something better for themselves and their children for political gain is disgusting beyond description.

Immigration is a problem, but the easy, quick solution Trump and his supports desire does not exist. Quick, easy solutions only make people's lives harder and more desperate--not better--and the problem remains.

I am ashamed at what my country has become. Vote next week.

16. But He Is Not Responsible

So the President of the United States uses the same language that a mass shooter used, but he is not responsible for the actions of the shooter. Also, is Donald Trump doing this just for the fun of doing this? Why on Earth would he use the same language as the shooter only days after the shooting? Trump must have been made aware of the language that the shooter used. Is Trump trying to dog whistle his support for the actions of the shooter and other individuals who think like the shooter?

If someone is willing to walk hundreds of miles to be here, then welcome them! They'll be good for the country.
