Without evidence, Trump and Sessions warn of voter fraud in Tuesday's elections
Source: MSN/Washington Post
President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday issued strong warnings about the threat of voter fraud in Tuesdays elections, echoing the presidents baseless claims that massive voter fraud marred his 2016 election and prompting accusations that his administration is trying to intimidate voters.
In a tweet early Monday, Trump said that law enforcement has been strongly notified to watch for ILLEGAL VOTING. He promised that anyone caught voting improperly would be subjected to Maximum Criminal Penalties. Sessions, in a statement laying out the Justice Departments plans to monitor ballot access on Election Day, said fraud in the voting process will not be tolerated. Fraud also corrupts the integrity of the ballot.
In remarks to reporters on his way to a campaign rally in Cleveland, Trump also falsely claimed that voter fraud is commonplace.
Just take a look, he said. All you have to do is go around, take a look at whats happened over the years, and youll see. There are a lot of people a lot of people my opinion, and based on proof that try and get in illegally and actually vote illegally. So we just want to let them know that there will be prosecutions at the highest level.

I guess if you assume that minorities should never be allowed to vote, then you can see why Trump and Sessions see voter fraud everywhere. Thus, voter suppression is seen as combating voter fraud by keeping people from voting based on their race.

(12,821 posts)... that if Republicans lose then it must be because of "massive voter fraud" -- not because their party policies and priorities (and President) suck.

(12,595 posts)And yes, I know that elections are controlled at the state level, but that hasn't stopped the Repugs from pulling ever dirty trick in the book to ensure they remain in power. Saying only he can fix it (where have we heard this before), Mushroom Dick will write an EO invalidating any election won by a Democrats.
When the Dems, ACLU, and everyone else who still believes in America as a democracy and not a dictatorship sue him, Trump will take his case right to the SCOTUS (his latest favorite scheme) and let Kavanaugh and the other members of the Gang of Five decide the limits of the president's power. We already know how Kavanaugh feels about it -- the question is whether the other four "originalists" will find some pretzel logic to join in.

(3,503 posts)If Hillary had won the EC (and popular) Repubs would have complained about "massive voter fraud" in the cities (they can't possibly have that many people in those). If we pull this off (take back Congress) I'm curious as to how far this goes. I'm not sure if the DC Republicans are willing to cross this line but you never know. We live in interesting times.

(6,557 posts)Why didn't tRump's own Voter Fraud Commission not find evidence of voter fraud and he had to disband it a few weeks after it was put in motion. The Commission found few substatiated cases of voter fraud. I believe two of the substatiated cases involved Republicans voting more than once and/ or in more than one state. That man has a memory of a gnat, and he thinks everyone else does too.
By the way, watch. what. they. are. doing. When they are saying that there are threats of voter fraud, they mean on their side, but let's deflect.

(3,667 posts)Con run states that spent hundreds of thousands of dollars investigating voter fraud. Couldn't find more than a handful and most of those were just mistakes not fraud.
