Pro-Saudi lobbyists paid 5 senators who voted against Yemen bill

Source: al Jazeera

At least five of the 37 Republican Senators who voted against advancing a resolution limiting the US' involvement in the war in Yemen have received campaign contributions from pro-Saudi lobbying groups.

Roy Blunt, John Boozman, Richard Burr, Mike Crapo and Tim Scott all received financial contributions from firms representing Saudi interests between 2016 and 2017, according to a recent investigation by the Centre for International Policy (CIP).

All five Republicans voted on Wednesday against advancing the resolution, which if passed, would force the US to limit its support for the Saudi-UAE war in Yemen.

Blunt, one of the two Senators from Missouri, received at least $19,200 in campaign contributions from firms representing Saudi Arabia in 2017, the CIP said.

Last year, the oil-rich kingdom spent at least $24m to influence US policy and public opinion, according to disclosures to the Department of Justice made available through the Center for Responsive Politics' Foreign Lobby Watch tool.

he said that Citizens United wouldn't lead to this. It's going to be really hard to get money out of politics now.

You are a disgrace to NC and America. But so republican, grabbing all the money you can before your exit. I am calling it an exit because you certainly didn't Actually Do any WORK or anything for the citizens of North Carolina. I hope and pray for the day you will be caught and proven to be a dirty crook. Meanwhile, I am going to work and wait for the day a Democrat fills your seat and I hope the door hits you firmly on the way out.

Believe it or not, there's an old saying some people of a certain age may know. "You have to go along to get along." The question is whether you "go along" with the good or bad crowd. I think he's clearly with the bad guys.

He's close to being an expert at flying under the radar. He has been worthless as a public servant. Plus his wife is loaded. He could have been a stay at home husband and been just fine, leaving his seat open for someone who actually gives a damn was just too noble for him. He's a sniveling sloth of a man who clearly believes that it's all about the Benjamins.

An original welfare queen, you are, Richard Burr, I hope you choke on your next and every meal from now until eternity. The only person that disgusts me more than you is Pat McCrory, so much so that I can barely type his name. I can't wait for the day you both are history.

there are some things I will never understand. Someone who wants for nothing, still will compromise basic values just to possibly "go along". Is this really the legacy that he wants to leave? The republicans in congress are among the worst people in the world - no values, no character, no integrity, and no conscience.

If his wife has money, there are countless things he could have done with his life. Pathetic.

That horse was too big. Lobbying needs to be strongly regulated if you want any American to have faith in government. Pretty funny, huh?

Naturally, he is one of those holier-than-though, smug, self-righteous types. And here he is lapping up that Saudi dough.
