Judge orders more fact-finding in Clinton email case

Source: Politico

By JOSH GERSTEIN 12/06/2018 10:28 PM EST

The email controversy that dogged Hillary Clinton through much of the 2016 presidential race could well be kicking around through the 2020 contest after a federal judge ordered additional fact-finding into whether Clinton’s use of the private email system was a deliberate effort to thwart the Freedom of Information Act.

In a scathing opinion issued Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth said that despite FBI, inspector general and congressional investigations into Clinton’s use of a private account for all her email traffic during her four years as secretary of state, the conservative group Judicial Watch should be permitted to demand documents and additional testimony about the practice.

Lamberth, who has clashed with Clinton and her aides in cases dating back to her husband’s administration, was unsparing in his assessment of the former secretary’s actions. He blasted Clinton’s email practices as “one of the gravest modern offenses to government transparency.”

Lamberth also again expressed concerns that lawyers at the Justice Department and the State Department misled the court when they tried at the end of 2014 to wrap up Judicial Watch’s FOIA suit about Benghazi talking points even though some officials were aware months earlier that Clinton had tens of thousands of emails on a private system and had agreed to turn many of them over to State at its request.

Add in Trump's unsecured cellphone use and ALL legislators use of private servers/providers for government emails (many who questioned Hillary, did and still do, use personal email accounts for government communications).

This is a right wing group going to a right wing judge.

Note that the judge says that HRC wrote that it was a terror attach and says the Obama administration would not say that. Remember when Romney, tricked by watching too much Fox News or having debate preparers that did do, said the same thing. BOTH Obama and Clinton said it was terrorism at the time. Candy Crowley, certainly not a leftie, called Romney on that.

Not to mention, they now have the emails. So, the ONLY THING they seem to want now is a judgment that the State Department should have told them there were more emails they did not have. Emails that the State Department was working to get already. Note the effort on Clinton 's email was under the SD IG because he was not political.

That said, this is why Clinton should have left all the emails with the SD when she left. This would have meant they all would have been processed and given to the right wing JW and there would have been nothing bad to see. No negative to Clinton, no negative to the State Department.

Judicial Watch.

As with everything that the conspirisy theorist Larry Clayman is involved with this will be a waste a lot of money, and will show nothing.

I would like to know who is behind this

Millions of dollars and hundreds of people-hours have been spent on this...talk about beating a dead horse.

That said, no one should be so partisan as not to admit that maintaining a private email server to store government emails was a very poor decision, especially when people like the Clintons and those around them, know their life is under a microscope looking for them to do even the smallest thing wrong. Unfortunately, hubris is a shortcoming that most Democrats can little afford.
She did nothing illegally. That said though, but for that think about where we would be if they had made better decisions?
