KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) President Donald Trump said Friday that Congress should provide all the money he wants for his promised U.S.-Mexico border wall, and he called illegal immigration a threat to the well-being of every American community.
Trump spoke hours after signing a short-term spending bill that covers key government departments for two more weeks, until Dec. 21, setting up a pre-Christmas showdown over the wall.
The president wants the next spending package to include at least $5 billion for the proposed wall. House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California rejected that a day earlier.
At an appearance in Kansas City, Missouri, Trump accused Democrats of playing a political game, and said it was one that he ultimately would win.

You are their leader.

Maybe he'll have better luck with the new guy.

(18,628 posts)Actually, a lot of us do, but that's beside the point.
I don't want to hand him or his asshole supporters this victory just out of principle. Why would I want to hear chants of USA! and "promises made, promises kept" from a bunch of morons for two years?
I really don't even care if there's a wall or not, but Trump's arrogance during the campaign ruined any chance that democrats or I would support it. Let him plunge the country into bankruptcy and recession then blame Nancy Pelosi for not succumbing to his childish demands. Good luck with that as election day nears.

(11,885 posts)But the Gop will join in with the Dems and start impeaching him knowing this is going to only hurt the country and the American people and their careers forever if they do nothing. They also know trump is dragging them to hell now.

(27,804 posts)they may reduce the amount he gets...it might not be $5 billion, but he will get funding for his frickin' wall...(just a guess)

(27,804 posts)He shouldn't get one red cent!
But the Repigs still control both houses of Congress, so he might get funding for his fucking wall as part of a GOP bill to fund the govt within the next week or so.
John Fante
(3,479 posts)that's a big reason there hasn't been any wall funding in the first place.

(27,804 posts)McConnell has instituted the "nuclear option" in the Senate, which is why Drumpf was easily able to put two ultra-right-wingers on the SCOTUS.
All McTurtle needs is 50 Senate votes to do anything he wants.
The reason the Liar-in-Chief hasn't gotten money for his wall so far is because the Repukes haven't mustered 50 Senate votes for it.
The nuclear option does not apply to budgetary issues. So Donnie would need 60 votes in the Senate, which he isnt getting.

(10,279 posts)to companies that hire illegal workers and jail time to the decision makers who hire them. That would cost a lot less than Trump's wall and would be more effective.

(3,479 posts)Those companies skew Republican, and besides, undocumented immigrants are an indispensable part of our workforce. I'm sure even Mango Fuckwit knows this. Tightening up the border and a pathway to citizenship is the best fix. The ONLY fix. Birthrate trends in Latin America (plummeting) will take care of the rest
The wall, the family seperation, the tear gas - this is all about demonizing brown people. Nothing else.

Trump throws that word around like its a bad thing! its not.
Best thing of course would be to be moving forward with progressive agenda.
WORST THING is whats going on now - single party republican control - barreliing through and passing far rw legislation at warp speed, with little or no no publicity or ability to stop it.
Holding pattern/keeping them in check IMHO is a vast improvement over whats going on now.
Bring it on Donald!

(92,190 posts)suspect there are Senate republicans who will not go for this crap, and with time running out for the year, it will end up that the will kick the can down the road for the government budget, and next year the numbers are even worse for trump to get that wall passed, along with the fact that the Mueller report and perhaps other investigations will be going on, I suspect that trump will have more on his mind than that wall
TexasBushwhacker
(20,190 posts)They can toe the party line and for FOR the wall, knowing it has no chance of passing.
Perhaps this will be the new Obamacare repeal. I truly think that there are Republican senators who do not want to repeal Obamacare. They know that to repeal it without an adquate replacement would be a fiasco. But they go ahead and vote for repeal, over and over, knowing it will not pass.
