Federal judge rejects Poliquin's constitutional challenge of ranked-choice voting

A federal judge on Thursday rejected Republican U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquins constitutional claims against ranked-choice voting as well as the incumbents request for a new election.

It was unclear Thursday whether Poliquin or the three other plaintiffs in the case all 2nd District voters would appeal the decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals. Both the congressman and his attorney have suggested the Bangor court case was a potential first step as they seek to set national legal precedent on the use of ranked-choice voting in federal races.

It remains unclear whether Golden will be seated with his U.S. House colleagues on Jan. 3 because of both the court case and a hand-recount of the nearly 300,000 ballots cast in the 2nd District on Election Day. That recount, which was requested by Poliquins campaign, is expected to take at least three more weeks to complete.
Maine became the first state in the nation to utilize ranked-choice voting in statewide elections this year.

This good but I expect Poliquin will appeal. He is going to be a pain in the ass about this. Probably thinks he'll eventually get lucky and find a judge that sees it his way.
