Wave of bomb threats causes evacuations, anxiety nationwide
A wave of bomb threats were reported against businesses, schools, hospitals and other places across the country on Thursday, authorities said.

A wave of bomb threats were reported Thursday against businesses, schools, hospitals and other places across the country causing panic and evacuations, although all appeared to be hoaxes. ... Police in cities nationwide reported threats, some emailed, some phoned in.
The FBI in a statement said they were "aware of the recent bomb threats made in cities around the country, and we remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance. As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety."
A spokesman for the Oklahoma City Police Department said there were 10 to 13 email bomb threats with specific addresses in and around the city. The spokesperson said police were investigating all of the threats but they had not found anything serious so far.
Authorities in New York City were monitoring multiple bomb threats that have been sent electronically to various locations throughout the city, the New York Police Departments counterterrorism bureau said on Twitter. ... These threats are also being reported to other locations nationwide & are NOT considered credible at this time, the NYPD said. ... New York police later said on Twitter that there was an email being circulated containing a bomb threat asking for bitcoin payment but that no devices had been found. ... Police added it appeared the threats were meant to cause disruption and/or obtain money.

(1,821 posts)A very distracted woman walked into me. I am 58 and fit not going to talk about the weight..so I am hard to miss.
After she walked into me, I asked if she was ok. After apologizing profusely, she said that she was sent home after a bomb threat. Without being too intrusive, I did asked where she worked.
She works in a Philly suburb for a healthcare company.

(6,186 posts)...... that was called with a bomb threat at 14:45 CST. I called to make an appointment and was told by the operator that answered the phone "they had just received a bomb threat and I might have to leave a message for a call back".

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- Police are investigating multiple reports of bomb threats at various locations across the Hampton Roads region.
According to a tweet from NBC News, there were threats reported nationwide at "news outlets, government buildings, banks, libraries, schools and other businesses."

More than a dozen bomb threats were reported in Hampton Roads and northeast North Carolina.
Two locations received threats via email in Chesapeake, according to the fire department. One was at a corporate building on Executive Boulevard just before 1:30 p.m., and the other came shortly before 2 p.m. at the Central Library.
Daniel Hudson with Norfolk police said officers and firefighters responded to multiple locations Thursday afternoon. Crews are investigating, but Hudson said no credible threat has been found so far.

They are currently assumed to be fake.
