Utah couple accused of waterboarding daughter as punishment

Source: Associated Press

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah couple is accused of waterboarding their 9-year-old daughter as a form of punishment.

The girl told police that her father and stepmother tied her hands and then placed a towel over her face, held her down in a bathtub and poured water on the towel, according to probable cause statement filed by police last week.

The girl said she couldn't breathe during the waterboarding that occurred three times in their home in Provo, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City.

She also said she suffered other abuse, including being slapped by her stepmother in the face, causing a nose bleed, the documents show.

Fox 13 Salt Lake City, Utah:

PROVO, Utah -- A biological mother learned her daughter was allegedly the victim of waterboarding as a punishment from her guardians.

The nine-year-old girl’s father and stepmother were arrested by Provo police Thursday on accounts of child abuse.

The little girl’s mother, Brittany Calabrese said she hasn’t seen her daughter since 2014, but learning that the girl's father and his wife were abusing her, was heartbreaking.

“It was the hardest thing for me to hear having to be in Texas,” said Calabrese. “She’s nine, nine years old. That is torture of a child.”

(It's good to see a Fox tv station having to publish someone's claim that waterboarding is torture.)

Here's hoping her "father" and "stepmother" get all that they have coming to them, and also that the young lady is placed with people who will love her, protect her, and help her heal from this. I just don't understand how people can do things like this to children.

Not only is this poor girl going to have the mental scars of this horrific abuse but who is she going to end up with? I feel a cramp in my chest worrying about her. Geez.

Absolutely heartbreaking. I can't stand hearing of a child or an animal being abused like that.

should each have a finger removed. Slowly. I'm in some kind of weird old testament mood tonight. And yeah, Roger Stone should have red hot coals dumped in his mouth, after his tongue is cut out.

Of course I'm outraged by the torture of a child.

All torture causes me grief and outrage.

These people have to be sent to prison and everyone in prison should be informed about their crime. Let the prisoners give these people JUSTICE. The new age parenting skills are highly lacking with those parents. When they fail to have a normal dialog with a teen they have lost control. I hope this story is shared so that others can find out what horrible people are doing to children.
