US government partially shuts down over border wall row

Source: BBC

A partial US government shutdown has taken effect after US lawmakers failed to break a budget impasse.

Mr Trump, who has to sign off any deal, is insisting at least $5bn (£4bn) in government funding be included to help build his long-promised US border wall.

Lawmakers adjourned from last-minute talk efforts on Friday evening.

In the absence of an agreement, funding for about a quarter of all US federal agencies lapsed at midnight (05:00 GMT Saturday).

and the Freedumb caucus tied Ryan's hands. Don't get me wrong, Boehner and Ryan were terrible Speakers.

Ryan should have at least put the Senate Bill up for a vote, instead he ran like a baby to daddy Trump who killed the Bill. Ryan should have taken the vote, it probably would have passed and I'm not so sure that Trump would have had the guts to veto it, that would have put him square in the spotlight for shutting down the government with no one else to blame.

Although they only went from 51 to 53 seats, the incoming Republicans are very right-wing.

Pass the bill without the waste of $5,000,000,000 for this lunatic’s lie to his base in the House after January 3rd, and send it to the Senate for the 60+ votes.

The orange lard-ass can veto it, and the Senate can override his wasteful, asinine veto.

This jackass needs to be reigned in. I quit listening to the news as of now! I really don’t want to hear anymore about the federal workers, who are going to get paid regardless, eventually. I don’t want to hear about Zion Nat’l Park cutting back on staff, or any of the other affects of this shut down. I’m not for it, but the “pain and suffering” is bull shit for the most part.

And I sure as hell don’t want to hear about “border security” when they mean this campaign promise of “Mexico paying for” a dumb ass, lame fence/wall that they can dig under or climb over and accomplishes nothing, but it feeds the brain dead dRumpf fan KKKlub’s thirst for a “win”.

Don’t wake me until Jan 3rd when the Democrats have the reigns on this clown. Hold tight Nancy and Chuck. Not one fucking dime!!!!

negotiating with Mexico for the money he promised his cult was coming to build his beautiful "Steel Slat" wall. I'm sure they'll have something ironed out before morning, because Donnie is all about his "promises made, promises kept" bullshit, and he would never make the American taxpayer foot the bill for this. He is, after all, the greatest negotiator in the world.

That would destroy the Democratic party in 2020.
You can NEVER trust a Republican (or a Putinpublican). I don't know what it is with that party: they are so willing to sell the U.S. to the highest bidder.

I was contracted to DOE with a long term government contract. Money for this contract was dedicated for years in advance. We just kept on working. I think other government groups will keep on working because their contracts are prepaid. I also think people will keep on working and "hope" they are paid for work performed. The only losers are RE-THUGS who ARE DRONES AND DO NOT CARE. I think the whole plan to close down the government is a joke since border control, military, FAA, etc. are open and have to take care of daily activities. I still do not know why so many people support the BONE HEAD re-thugs???
