Trump fires back at McChrystal: 'Known for big, dumb mouth'
Source: The Hill
President Trump on Tuesday lashed out at retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal with a string of personal attacks after the former leader of U.S. operations in Afghanistan called the president "immoral" and dishonest.
"'General' McChrystal got fired like a dog by Obama. Last assignment a total bust. Known for big, dumb mouth. Hillary lover!" Trump tweeted on New Year's Day.
The retired four-star Army general said on ABC's "This Week" that he would not work for the Trump administration if asked, citing the president's dishonesty. "Its important for me to work for people who I think are basically honest, who tell the truth as best they know it," McChrystal said. "I dont think he tells the truth," he added.
McChrystal has previously been critical of Trump's policies and rhetoric. He has questioned Trump's decision to send troops to the southern border and has expressed concern over the president's repeated criticism of former military leaders, such as retired Adm. William McRaven.

(58,724 posts)(CNN) -- The fate of the top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan hinges on his meeting Wednesday with President Barack Obama, who was "angry" after reading the general's remarks about colleagues in a magazine profile to be published Friday.
Gen. Stanley McChrystal will likely resign, a Pentagon source who has ongoing contacts with the general said.
The "magnitude and graveness" of McChrystal's mistake in conducting the interview for the article were "profound," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said McChrystal had "made a significant mistake and exercised poor judgment."

WASHINGTON President Barack Obama sacked his loose-lipped Afghanistan commander Wednesday, a seismic shift for the U.S. military order in wartime, and chose the familiar, admired and tightly disciplined Gen. David Petraeus to replace him. Petraeus, architect of the Iraq war turnaround, was once again to take hands-on leadership of a troubled war effort.
Obama said bluntly that Gen. Stanley McChrystal's scornful remarks about administration officials represent conduct that "undermines the civilian control of the military that is at the core of our democratic system."

(58,724 posts)McChrystal also writes that he presented the White House with a goal of defeating the Taliban but was advised by the administration to lower his sights, to an attempt to "degrade" the Taliban.
The general also writes that he aired concern over the laying out of a timeframe for withdrawal, with President Obama stating that troops would be brought home by the end of 2014. McChrystal feared that such a deadline might embolden the Taliban.

Taliban soldier one moment, farmer and father of children the next. And when he is a soldier, the mother is raising the male children to be the same.
Some things can't be won with military might. Better to degrade their ability to fight and contain...let the outside culture slowly erode them a couple generations.

(16,936 posts)Interesting reading of the links others have provided showing the background of Gen. McChrystal. The most interesting was this: after McChrystal's interview was released and PRESIDENT Obama was informed about it (not yet having seen it), he did the following:
"Obama got in touch with White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, requesting that he distribute the article to the president's senior advisers and to have them discuss its contents and begin to think about which course to take."
So, if I read this correctly, PRESIDENT Obama had an issue with a well-respected military leader, the person in charge of the military actions in Afghanistan, and was concerned about the fitness of this General to continue in that leadership position. PRESIDENT Obama's reaction was to survey senior staff and advisers as to what they would consider proper steps to take regarding the General's actions.
WHAT!? No "trust my gut" - "I'm smarter than all of these generals" - "I pick only the best!"
Tell me - which of those two leadership models leaves you feeling safer?

McChrystal graduated high school from St. John's College in Washington, DC.[21] He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, in 1976 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army. His initial assignment was to C Company, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division,[22] serving as weapons platoon leader from November 1976 to February 1978, as rifle platoon leader from February 1978 to July 1978, and as executive officer from July 1978 to November 1978.[8][23]
In November 1978, McChrystal enrolled as a student in the Special Forces Officer Course at the Special Forces School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Upon completing the course in April 1979, he remained at Fort Bragg as commander of Operational DetachmentAlpha 714 (an "A-team" in A Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne).[24] This was not the last time that '714' would be associated with McChrystal. In June 1980, he attended the Infantry Officer Advanced Course at the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, until February 1981.[8][23]
In February 1981, McChrystal moved to South Korea as intelligence and operations officer (S-2/S-3) for the United Nations Command Support GroupJoint Security Area. He reported to Fort Stewart, Georgia, in March 1982 to serve as training officer in the Directorate of Plans and Training, A Company, Headquarters Command. He moved to 3rd Battalion, 19th Infantry, 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized), in November 1982, where he commanded A Company before becoming battalion operations officer (S-3) in September 1984.[8][23]
McChrystal moved to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, as battalion liaison officer in September 1985, became commander of A Company in January 1986, served again as battalion liaison officer in May 1987, and finally became battalion operations officer (S-3) in April 1988, before reporting to the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, as a student in the Command and General Staff Course in June 1989. It was during this time that McChrystal also completed a Master of Science degree in international relations from Salve Regina University.[25] After completing the course in June 1990, he was assigned as Army Special Operations action officer, J-3, Joint Special Operations Command until April 1993, in which capacity he deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.[8][23]
From April 1993 to November 1994, McChrystal commanded the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He then commanded the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, from November 1994 to June 1996. During this time he initiated what would become a complete revamping of the existing Army hand-to-hand combat curricula.[26] After a year as a senior service college fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, he moved up to command the entire 75th Ranger Regiment from June 1997 to August 1999, then spent another year as a military fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.

And he's losing more supporters every day, as they found out that "What have you got to lose?" wasn't a challenge, it was a promise. "Take inventory of everything you've got -- your healthcare, your stock portfolio, your children who are serving in the miitary, your pride in your country and its leader, clean water, clean air, a good education, public lands -- that's what I'm going to take from you. That's what you're going to lose."

(11,885 posts)What a moron saying something like that to a highly respected general. Why would anyone in the military now support this idiot who shows no respect for anything. Hillary would have respect for all generals , and said nothing like this, other than generals that committed acts of treason against OUR country, instead of hiring them for his campaign. trump has troubles knowing who's good and who's bad, and says nothing to those who are corrupt and criminals. He's always backing the bad people, always. The people in the military now know this too.
