Rep. Jennifer Wexton Flies Trans Pride Flag Outside Her Capitol Hill Office

The 116th Congress is making history for its unprecedented representation of minority groups. And one new legislator is proudly displaying her commitment to inclusion.

After Thursday’s swearing-in ceremony, Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-Va.) hung a transgender pride flag outside her office next to the official Virginia state flag.

The newly minted congresswoman from the state’s 10th District told Washingtonian that the flag is a personal show of solidarity because she’s an aunt to a transgender kid.

“The trans community has been under attack,” she said. “I wanted to show my solidarity because we are talking about my friends and family.”

One of the reasons I became a a member of the Democratic Party to begin with. Having always been kind of a political junkie before the advent of cable and 24/7 in the bubble talking heads, I remember watching the conventions when quite young and the Republican ones were so overwhelmingly white it was scary. Even today, it is the same way. It seems the Republicans always have to place some minorities in places so they will always be on camera. We have not just a diverse convention delegation, but leadership too.

Disclaimer: Fairfax Underground is a real cesspool. If it weren't for the old pictures of Fairfax County, I wouldn't bother visiting the site.

I haven't visited that site since 2016 but in addition to looking at the old photos I loved reading the ghost stories

Democrat Jennifer Wexton knocked off a Trump-supporting Republican, Barbara Gunstock --- oops, meant to say "Barbara Comstock" with her 100% NRA rating. VA rightwingers are not happy with Wexton.

VA rightiwngnutcases congregate on a nutty blog, The Bull Elephant. The lady who runs TBE is having a fainting spell over this flag.

My only BFF, Sandy, was transgender. The lack of acceptance wound up killing her. I miss her.
