Shutdown is costing farmers, says Farm Bureau official

Source: hillTv

1/7/2019

Farmers are losing payments from the government meant to help them during the trade fight with China because of the government shutdown, a top official with the American Farm Bureau Federation said Monday.
..................................

“We’ve seen a pretty large impact for some producers, that’s where we saw some of the market facilitation payments that are currently delayed because of the government shutdown,” the official, Andrew Walmsley, told Hill.TV's Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on "Rising."
.......................

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in December launched its second and final round of trade mitigation payments, but Walmsley, director of congressional relations for the Farm Bureau, says that relief has since temporarily halted due to the budget impasse.
...............
“It’s slowing down implementation of the Farm Bill right now because USDA employees aren’t able to work, so something we would like to see folks probably get back to work here pretty soon in Washington,” Walmsley told Hill.TV.......................

Do the posters at the AG sites you visit understand that the bailout payments are temporary and this will be the last payment when it's eventually released? What's will happen to farmers in the future w/o the bailout money? I expected more noise around this from red farming states but it's been fairly muted, probably because of the temporary bailout money.

Depending on which farmer is posting, the markets are either disastrous or
improving...:

Weekly data is awful for soybean shipments, China took barely 11% of the 24.7 Mbu inspected. Yet again we are falling further behind year ago pace when the bullish demand narrative was we’d be catching up during the 90 day thaw. Pretty bad for corn though that’s to be expected.

But yes, they know about the limits of the payments....

How some remain loyal to him is insane. Oh wait . . .

As Russia has planned it, now they are reaping the benefits of selling produce to China.
